Hey everyone! Sorry I have been absent for a while. Things are absolutely crazy with getting everything ready for school! It’s very exciting but also stressful and time consuming. So again, I apologize that these updates are not coming faster.
-Chapter 7-
“Cheer up, child. It’ll turn out all right in the end. You’ll see.” ~Mrs. Potts
Day 2 (continued)
Sunday May 27th
I left you right after we finished our fun-filled meal at Chef Mickey’s. It was so fun to ride the monorail around the lagoon and back to MK. I was just excited to be on the Monorail again, but one plus I hadn’t thought of was that I got a glimpse of the Poly and GF- which I’d never been up close to either! They are so beautiful!! The GF is my absolute DREAM resort. I think it has been since the Tanner family stayed there on Full House! The Poly is definitely beautiful and it is now 2nd on the list of “One Day I Will Stay There” resort!
Well, even though we were enjoying the ride, the lunch at Chef Mickey’s had taken longer than we thought it would. Our FP for Peter Pan were very close to expiring and I was scared with the new FP return time enforcement that we wouldn’t make it. Plus, I wanted to grab a FP for Winnie the Pooh on our way to Peter Pan. Well, when we got off the Monorail we had 5 minutes. I knew we wouldn’t make it on time for the FP. But we booked it and were late by 10 minutes, after getting Winnie the Pooh FP. I was silently preparing my dining reservation excuse speech in my head. The cast member looked at the time on the FP, looked at their watch, and looked back at the FP. Then he smiled and said “Right on Time, Ladies! And Happy Birthday!” Whew! Relief!
So in that hustle and bustle, you see the lack of pictures upon our re-entry into the park! Well after Peter Pan, we looked up wait times on Sam’s Mobile Magic App and Haunted Mansion only had a 20 minute wait. We decided to head that way and get out of the heat for a bit.
While waiting in line, we got to the new separation of the Cemetery line and the Old line. We asked the CM if there was a difference in wait time and she said about 7 minutes longer through the cemetery. We really wanted to see the cemetery addition so we opted to go that way. It was really cool!!
Sam found an old family member here… see the resemblance?!?!
Then we continued on and played with all the fun new interactive displays!
It really didn’t take that long to get through. Or it didn’t seem like it because we were having fun playing!! Soon we were huddled like cattle ready to be let in and snapped a few pictures.
I tried looking for Madam Leota’s ring in the cement, but I forget where they said it was. I never saw it on this trip. Anyone know where it is?
After this, we went over towards Splash Mountain and BTMRR. We were happily surprised to see BTMRR was open. It wasn’t set to open until the next day, so we were pretty excited we would get to ride it on both our MK days. Before we hopped in line, we grabbed a FP for Splash Mountain.
We rode BTMRR and it was so fun!! I know it was down for some time for refurbishment. But we hadn’t been there in 3 years so I honestly can’t remember to tell you what- if anything – was different about it. After that, we hopped on the train!
We rode the train around to the New Fantasyland! I have pictures but I will include them on my 2nd MK day update. We used our Winnie the Pooh FP. I love this ride! It is adorable! Someday I want to wait in the stand-by queue just to play with all the interactive stuff.
After Winnie the Pooh, we headed over to the veranda in Adventureland. We had a certain Prince and Princess that we were dying to meet. Well, we got SUPER LUCKY. We got to the veranda and the line was super long. Sam and I gave each other the look asking if it was worth it. Basically reading our minds, the Cast Member told us the Prince would NOT be back out today. So we hopped in line and she closed the line immediately after us.
I’m not going to lie. It was a LONG wait. But before the trip had even started, Sam and I said we wanted to make meeting certain characters a priority. We really wanted to meet this Princess and the Prince was just an added bonus. Well, who was it???
ARIEL AND PRINCE ERIC!!!! [really sad my eyes are closed in our pic, oh well]
Oh my goodness! This character interaction was AMAZING! It may be because we were last, but they talked to us forever. At one point, Ariel pointed out the Jayhawk (ROCK CHALK!) on my dress. She said she’d never seen a bird like that but it must be one of Scuttle’s cousins! Haha! I was also swooning over the fact that I got to put my arm around Prince Eric.
So that was FABULOUS!!!!
But, we were also very hot! The humidity was crazy and I’d been reading all about the possibility of rain from Tropical Storm Beryl. The clouds were NOT looking pleasant. We figured we were right there so, why not ride Pirates. This ended up being the PERFECT decision because when we walked off the ride, the ground was drenched. It was only slightly sprinkling now though. So, we turned and headed towards Splash Mountain to use our FP. With the ever darkening clouds, we didn’t want to chance missing out on using the FP. We waited 5 minutes for our time to turn over and then we basically walked on Splash! Awesome!
The ride was fantastic as ever. I love Splash! We couldn’t wait to ride it multiple times during the 3AM EMH…yea about that….
Anyways, it was about 4:30pm and it was time to go and meet another Princess and her Prince. This is probably the Princess that I was most excited to meet! I seriously couldn’t wait! We got to her queue REALLY early, so we wouldn’t have to wait like we did with Ariel and Eric. We were like the 5th people in line. Wohoo!!!
It had started misting a bit and I was scared if it really started to rain they would cancel the character appearance. Luckily, the misty-ness subsided and soon, our Princess and her Prince appeared. And that’s when my knees got weak, my stomach flip-flopped, and my mouth dropped wide-open. HOLY MOLY PRINCE NAVEEN IS A HOTTIE!!!!!!
Yup, that’s right. We were meeting Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen!!! And I thought Prince Eric was cute! But if Tiana and Naveen hadn’t had that protective-looking character handler, I may have just dragged Prince Naveen back to Kansas with me.
Um yea! LOOK AT HIM!! I got to hug that gorgeous man! Be jealous.
Ok, so after we pulled ourselves together enough to leave and accepting Tiana’s offer to join them for gumbo sometime, we decided we actually were pretty hungry. It was about 5:30pm. So we headed into Tomorrowland because we wanted to eat at Cosmic Rays! I’d never eaten here before and I was pleasantly surprised! It was really good!
Here is Sam’s food, a chili cheese dog and fries:
And here is my food, a chicken sandwich and fries:
After eating, we both were getting tired. I know, I know… we are supposed to be doing 3am EMH. But we were about to hit the wall. 6 hours of sleep after a 20 hour day yesterday was not cutting it. We decided to head back to the resort and take a nap so we could be rejuvenated for EMH.
We got back to the resort by 7 and decided to set the alarm for 9. We wanted to make it back for Wishes at 10, because we wouldn’t be able to stay that late in the park on our last MK night. Let me just say, thank God for that nap. It really did help.
We were pushing it to get to MK in time for Wishes because we didn’t actually leave our room until 9:15. We did make it, but didn’t have the best spot. We were towards the end of Main Street. But it still had the desired effect and yes, I cried. I don’t know what it is about Wishes, but it just makes me thankful for everything, makes me feel like a kid again, and it really touched home because a week before the trip I had one of my “wishes” come true by getting my teaching job.
After that, we headed towards Adventureland to get a very coveted treat. Pretty sure you can all guess what that is… yup! A Dole Whip Float! [Sorry its not the best picture]
Ladies and Gentlemen, this was my FIRST Dole Whip Float! I can not believe how delicious this was. It was cold and sweet, but not a heavy dessert. Just perfect. We got them and found a front row spot in Frontierland for the 11pm MSEP!
I was so excited to see this parade because I never had. It was so awesome!!!! We got a lot of special attention because of our birthday buttons (did I mention I LOVE THOSE BUTTONS!) One of the dancing donkeys that is with Peter Pan’s float was talking to us while spinning around with is partner- he asked us how old we were and wished us a happy birthday! Peter Pan waved at us too!! (By the way, have you guys seen that adorable
YouTube video of that little girl who wants to marry Peter Pan??? Cutest thing ever! If you haven’t seen it, you need too!!)
[Please excuse the lack of pictures after this point]
Anyways, after the parade, we headed into Fantasyland. We rode IASW. We got stopped for about 5 minutes in the exit tunnel. Being stopped on IASW is torture…can I sue Disney? Just kidding!!! Then we headed over and rode Snow White. This was our last time to ride it. It was terribly sad and I didn’t want to get off the ride. I wish they could have kept it open and put the Princess Meet and Greet somewhere else, but I have to trust Disney that they are doing it to make the park even more fabulous.
We left Fantasyland and decided to ride on the Haunted Mansion. Why is the Haunted Mansion somewhat scary at night? Or maybe I’m just a wimp. We got stopped for a few minutes on this ride in the section with all the eyes looking back at you on the walls. Creepy! Haha! We also got scared in the graveyard because of one of those darn guys that jumps up from behind the tombstone. Creeps!
After Haunted Mansion, we decided to really get the night started and headed towards Splash Mountain! It was a little after midnight and we waited about 20 minutes in line. We figured as the night went on this wait time would just get shorter. So we got on about 12:30. Sam tried to point out a Hidden Mickey we’d seen earlier in the day, but you couldn’t see it in the dark. I was so pumped to go down Splash Mountain at night. Another thing I’d never done. We were having a fabulous ride and we arrived in The Laughing Place. And then our night changed completely…
Our log stopped right under those mechanical opossums, next to the little doors at the base of the tree to the left. This is where we sat for the next 20 minutes. Listening to that music OVER AND OVER. Finally, they turned it off, turned the lights on, and announced there was a mechanical issue. Thank you Captain Obvious. A CM came buy and assured us they were working as fast as possible to get the ride going again. 10 minutes later he walked buy and said “About ready to go folks.” Finally, 10 minutes later we started to move. Whew, no big deal right?
WRONG!

We went down that short drop and we were stopped again. Right by Brer Bear and the bee hive with his voice soundtrack playing repeatedly “whoo haa whoo haa ooh haa whoo haa…” Again, a CM came by and said they were working on the problem and to sit tight-- like we could actually go anywhere with the lap bar pulled down. Well, we sat tight for about 15 minutes, until the announcement that our ride would not be able to continue and that they’d be around shortly to help evacuate us from the ride.
At this point, everyone around us was getting antsy and one guy a few logs back was getting angry. Oh boy. Well, it took 20 minutes for them to get to our level and release all of us from the logs. It was a process, let me tell you. They walked us in a single file line to an evacuation staircase and out the back side of Splash Mountain. We were on the ride for basically an hour, not even counting wait time. It was now 1:30am and we only had an hour and a half left of the EMH. Talk about disappointment.
I’m not one to get mad about these kind of things though. It is obviously not the CM fault. Its not like they wanted the ride to breakdown. The one grouchy gentleman was trying to get free stuff from the CM that helped get us out. It was really sad that he reacted that way and all the poor CM could do was refer him to Guest Relations.
On a positive note, I got to see a bit of backstage Disney! It was really cool! Sam was laughing at me while I was amazed at the plain white staircase that goes straight through the mountain and the backstage area to the side of the ride. I wanted to break out my camera but with the CM’s around I wasn’t brave enough.
So the first fiasco of the trip was over. We decided to make the best of the rest of the EMH. We rode Pirates. Honestly, we were both a bit nervous getting on a boat ride after we had just gotten off of one. But we sucked it up! Haha!
After this, we headed towards Space Mountain! The line was actually pretty long, about 30 minutes, but we decided what else were we going to do? So, we rode Space Mountain. Afterwards, we were really tired so we decided to head home to our resort. It was about 2:30am. But as we reached Main Street we both decided we were hungry. The bakery was still open, so we popped in to see what was left.
Sam got a Chocolate pastry:
I got a Cherry Danish:
We enjoyed our treats on our way out. They were really yummy and hit the spot at the end of our night. I love walking slowly out of the MK, with all the lights on. It’s a special sort of ambiance that you can’t quite explain.
By the time we got back to the room, we were done. I took a quick shower and I believe we were both in bed asleep by 4am.
And we needed our beauty sleep…tomorrow held a couple more mishaps, but nothing a little Disney Magic couldn’t help solve.
