Online retailers - who to trust and who not to trust? Is search function broken?

I am in the market for a dslr and finding that online retailers are considerably cheaper than say Best Buy. Who do you trust?? Who do you not trust?

Also - if you order from an online retailer - how is their extended warranty? I always scoffed at those, but I got one on my S3 that I bought from Staples and it got knocked off the end table and the memory card door broke off and Staples upgraded me to the S5 (course I had to pay the difference and buy another warranty for the NEW camera, but at least I wasn't out the whole camera) - and they didn't give me a hassle at all...

Any suggestions? I've not bought anything large on the internet before! I am wanting the Canon XSI and it is showing Dell, Abes of Maine and Buydig as being better pricing.

I've seen people discuss these before, but I just realized the Search function is broken or at least well-hidden? I would have just searched for the answer!

Amazon, B&H video, Buy Digg, Beach Camera, Adorama (sp), Abe's of Maine. Those would be your standard ones. Personally I wouldn't by from anyone but these.

I agree with all the above. Also recommend checking resellerratings.com if you are unsure of an online retailer reputation.
I bought from Amazon, Beach, B&H, Adorama, J&R, Cameta (through Amazon and Ebay). They are all reputable, just look for the best price/deals.

I agree with the above recommendations. I ordered my Nikon D300 from Amazon.com after stalking all of the above retailers websites for months. Amazon finally had a deal on it that was too good to pass up. It was only available at the price I got it at for a few days so it pays to be patient too and do some homework if you know what camera you are looking for. I ordered the camera from Amazon but got a 50mm 1.4 and a SB600 flash from Adorama bc they had the best price for those items at the time.

I agree with the list. I have made purchases at B&H, Adorama, and Ritz. Do not forget your local cameral shop. If price is competitive, they can help you when service is needed. The link below is one place to find feedback.

The ones listed tend to be good places; I've used a few of them.

If you are tempted by any of the "fantastic deals" you can find on the Internet, simply take a look at the retailer on www.resellerratings.com. Good places generally are rated at 8+ while many of the ones with fantastic deals have a score under 1. You can draw your own conclusion.

I've ordered from Amazon for years and never had a problem. I bought my Canon S3 from Amazon. Most of the time any orders over $25 is free S&H and shipping is very fast. Just make sure when ordering from Amazon that the product is coming from Amazon and not someplace else. It will tell you who the seller is.

i have bought from digital photo pro a couple times( first time via amazon) and not had a problem with them. usually i stick with beach, buydig, b&h , adorama or amazon but amazon seems the slowest to me although that may be due to where i live( i think our mailman only delivers mail after it rides around with him for a month or two and if it's raining snowing or sunny he says the weather was to bad to deliver . i think sometimes they ship ups to usps)
