Online reservations now available for Wailulu Bar & Grill, Polynesian Island Tower

On December 3rd at 6:00 am I was online trying to book my reservation for dinner. We are going to WDW in January. Every single day in January showed up as not available. I couldn't imagine it being sold out that quickly. I kept going back in and trying....eventually, after about an hour, the days in January starting populating with availability and I was able to get the night I wanted. Very excited to try it out.

I was looking to make a reservation for Marathon Weekend -- Jan. 7-11 -- and the calendar was showing no reservations for a party of 2. But when I switched it to a party of 3, it showed availability on every single day. Should I make a reservation for 3? Or would I be charged for the person who is a "no-show"?

Make the ADR for 3. Then you can try to modify it to 2 or leave it alone. There’s no penalty for showing up with fewer guests than booked. This is a well known glitch with the ADR programming. My suspicion is that it wants to fill tables, and if there are no 2-tops it will hold the 4-tops for parties of 3 or 4. I can’t swear that’s true, it just seems like it based on reports here as well as my experience.

Does this work for reserving a 4 person table for 5 as well?

I'm seeing tons of tables for 4, but not for 5.
Only if you are dropping one person in your group. You can book with fewer people than the table holds, but not more. The parties of two who are booking for three will be at a four seat table, so there is room for their full party. So you would need to look at tables of six for the even number not tables of four, since they can’t seat five people in four chairs.

Ok, thanks!

We ate at Wailulu a week ago and really enjoyed it, I wish it would stay walk-up only but understand the move given it is definitely a sit down restaurant. We did mobile check in and it was freezing cold (50F) and so when our table was ready, we asked if we could wait for an indoor table. It was only 5 more minutes to wait. I would probably recommend checking in in person if you have a seating preference, so they can note it right away. Probably half of the seating is outside and there are no heaters or anything. The few people sitting outside during our dinner looked miserable, people had their hoods on their coats on!
