Hi all, modification tool question for anyone who might know. I have a 2020 home resort reservation made before 7 months that uses banked, borrowed and 2020 UY points. I am thinking of dropping a day. Will the tool let me select which set of points gets returned? Obviously I’d like the 2020 points as they will be bankable next year if necessary. Thanks for any info!

You should not need to specify that - current UY points are used last, so will be the ones to come off.

It will follow the usage rules which as I understand means it uses borrowed points first then banked and then current. So the points that will be returned to you will be the current. There is no way for you to tell it how to take the points when you are changing the reservation but it will do what you want automatically.

If you have a previous reservation which you modify, it will always reallocate the points according to the established rules. Unless you specify otherwise it will take Holding Points first, if they qualify. Then banked, borrowed, and finally the regular points. Transfered Points usually require you to call MS to use them in a modification.

Where this is nice, is, suppose you have two reservations, one of which uses mostly banked points, and one of which uses regular points. Then suppose you cancel the one with banked points. So now you have banked points sitting in your account, and regular points being used for the reservation. Well, you just go to the ongoing reservation and choose MODIFY. Now, just step through the reservation, page by page, without making ANY changes. When it comes to the points, it will automatically grab the banked points out of your account, first, and will now apply them to that reservation. Keep stepping through, and choose CONFIRM, and your banked points should now be applied, and your regular points now available.

If you do this, please check to make sure the points are now allocated how you want them. If you are not confident, or if you have any problems, call Member Services and ask them to do it.

Whoa, this is pretty amazing. Thanks for pointing this out!

I have 2 reservation questions that fall pretty much under this general thread question, so if I may ask here vs starting a new thread it should help keep the board tidy.

1. If I have a reservation for next UY that was made before I had banked points in my account for next year, does the system pull in the proper order based on what’s in the account at the time they are used or when the reservation was made? Or do I need to do a modification to get it to now use those banked points before 2020 UY points?

2. If you have banked points from a previous UY when selecting the order of your contracts to use is there a way to use just the banked points from that specific contract, then move to another contract to pull the remaining points from? Example, we purchased a 100 poly contract that had 100 2018 points banked to 2019. We had a reservation already for sept 2019 and wanted to modify it to use the 2018 poly points, but not any of the 2019 poly points. Instead I wanted it to use our SSR 2019 points to fill out the remainder of the 145 total points need to complete the reservation. I elected to bank the PVB 2019 points to 2020 first before I modified the reservation and then selected PVB 1st and SSR 2nd and it worked as I had hoped, but if I had wanted to keep the 2019 PVB points in this UY is that possible without calling MS? I fear it would have completed the entire modification with just the PVB points and never taken any SSR points because it didn’t need them.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer, it’s much appreciated.

1. It alots the points to the Reservation based on what is available on the date you first make the reservation. SO, if banked points become available later, it won't necessarily use them.
A. You can call up Member Services and have them reassign the points, and apply the banked points.
B.. You can go to the online reservation system, choose the Reservation where you want to apply the banked points.

2. Choose MODIFY and just step on through the reservation without modifying anything. When you get to the page where it assigns points, you can choose which contract you want First, Second or Third (etc.) It will take all the holding points first. Then the Banked points. Then the Borrowed points. Then the regular points. It will take all the banked from the first contract, then the second, then the third, before it moves on to take points in the next category. After assigning points, just keep 'stepping through' the reservation until you CONFIRM it. Since you didn't change the date, location, unit, people, or anything like that, you shouldn't need to modify any of those.

Thanks for your reply. So make sure I understand correctly, in my example I would want to select my SSR contract first, then the PVB second. It would take the banked points from the 2nd selected contract (PVB) before it would use the current UY points in the 1st selection (SSR) then go back to the top of the order to get the remainder of the points from current UY points, 1st the SSR and only on to the 2nd PVB if it didn’t have enough in the 1st selection?

I'm trying to make a reservation (not modify), and I'm finding that it is NOT following those rules. Is that a known issue, and it only works when modifying? I have three sub-contracts, BCV, BWV, and BLT. I am trying to use all the banked points in BCV and BLT first, and then use current points from BWV. But it takes all the points from the "first"contract I select, e.g., if I choose the BCV contract first, it takes the banked points and then the current points from that, and never touches the other contracts, including the BLT which had banked points.

What is up with this? It used to do such a beautiful job, and even had a video illustrating it. :( If I make it using the wrong points, can I then immediately modify to do what you said above?

Thanks!

Nevermind. It did take the points correctly in the end, but the screen shown earlier indicating how it would be done was not correct. But that's not what it did. Crazy.

I've posted about that little quirk before. I wonder how many people stop and don't proceed because it doesn't correctly show how it's going to take the points.
