I was looking around last week and someone mentioned a great online place to buy eyeglasses.

It was mentioned in a "best deals you have found on this site" type post.

My latest visit to LensCrafters cost me $490 AFTER the 30% discount, and I wanted to try the online place I saw.

Anyone remember that ?

Another good one is LBJ Optical (they are online, but out of California). I just got my DS (who is 9 and hard on glasses) a pair for $15, including shipping. and they are nice looking as well.

You need to have all the info about your prescription. There was quite a few questions I had to answer to order.

GL!

Love my 3 pairs from zenni for 40 with shipping!!

we use $39 eyeglasses.com. My family uses them plus i have put students onto them. They have the el cheapo glasses for $39 and the have high end semi-custom glasses like the ones i get. I have a pair of transitions that auto tint and a pair of titanium flexible frames. The whole deal cost me $189 as apposed to $300 from the local shop. Give them a look, i swear by them. http://www.39dollarglasses.com/index.html Their up in NY so you order on line and you will have them in a week or two tops.

Try Sam's Club if you're a member. They're prices are excellent plus you have someone local to adjust things. We went to them after tiring of a local chain...not Lenscrafters but another one.

Our's has an eye doctor there if you need it, and the whole atmosphere is so much more relaxed.

Go to CoastalContacts.com! They have name brand glasses as cheap as $6.95! I got 10 boxes of Oasis contact and a pair of prescription Ray Ban glasses (not sunglasses) for $225 shipped to my door. The contacts alone cost more than that everywhere else.

They charge a $25 - $30 'handling fee' but if you call them up after you have placed your order and tell them 1-800-Contacts or lens.com does not charge a handling fee, they will adjust the total and remove the fee for you! This is the only place I go now.

My vote is for zenni optical. Ordered 2 pairs of glasses for my daughter for $30 and they are very nice!

I went with zenni optical for 2 pair of glasses for my DS. I am very pleased with the quality and price. It was $30 per pair including clip on sunglasses and shipping and handling.

It's important to have the pupil distance and temple length (arm length of the frame). We started looking for glasses at brick and mortar stores and got our measurements there. The temple length we noticed right away as some of the frames extended beyond our DS's ears! With the right temple range we were able to avoid that. Thankfully!

There are instructions as to how to measure for pupil distance yourself on the zenni website. I did do this, but my measurements were not the same as the measurements taken by machine. It took all of 2 seconds for the guy to do. I was glad I to get the correct measurement. I also ordered the anti-reflective coating, and high index. We didn't find any frames we liked at the eyeglass store. My DS had seen some he liked from pictures, and I was able to see the frames on a child's face on another eyeglass website. The website had a lot of frames on different shaped faces and you could get an idea of what worked from that. It was very helpful. I wish I remembered that website. I'm glad I found zenni. The glasses would've cost me much more at a brick and mortar store.

I wear my $9 pair of Zenni glasses much more often than I wear my more expensive pair from Costco. I've never had any problems with them.

I just ordered 2 pairs this week from zennioptical. It was $28 for prescription glasses & sunglasses. I had them write my pd on my prescription. If I ordered the right fit, I'll be getting a couple nicer pairs.

Another vote here for zennioptical. I have not yet gotten my glasses from them (and it's been a week ago tomorrow that I ordered them)...but it was all of $22 including shipping and handling for my pair (keep in mind, I opted to pay $5 extra for an anti-reflective coating). The reason I ordered a pair is because after having my brand new glasses from lenscrafters for 7 weeks, I scratched them. Lenscrafters was going to charge me $175 to replace the scratched lenses.

Anywho. My neighbor has been using zenni for the last year or so. And she LOVES hers. She actually buys 4-8 pairs at a time for the price she'd pay elsewhere for one pair.

ALSO, lenscrafters will adjust glasses, no questions asked, no matter where you got them from.

I vote for zennioptical. I got two pairs last month for under $30. They are super cute. I was a little nervous cause of my astigmatism, but I am so happy with them!

Hey guys, I called zenni before placing an order for my glasses. I thought I'd share some information with you.

If you have a pair of glasses and need the temple distance, look inside the arm and it is stamped on it. It's the last 3 digits. Mine as an example, is 140.

My pupil distance has a half number. They don't have half numbers. Mine is 61.5, so I was told to round up. Very helpful to me to know. Hope it helps you too! Just thought I'd pass that on.

Now I can order my glasses! :)

Another vote for Zenni Optical! I have 2 pairs of regular prescription glasses and one pair of prescription sunglasses and I couldn't be happier! I have a very strong prescription - I mean coke bottles!! - last time I got three pairs from Lens crafters, I spent over $800!!! From Zenni - $185 for all three. :cool1: Love it! I know a lot of people who use them, and I have heard no complaints yet. I will never buy glasses at a mall shop again!!

First of all as a former Optician I am realing with the idea of buying glasses on line. There are so many things that can go wrong!!!

The part I have bolded makes NO SENSE. Your PD is your pupilare distance. Literally the distance between your pupils. From center pupil to center pupil. And YES you can have a .5 in your PD. Also how would anyone messure for a bifocal. You need the glass on the patient and you need for a no line a monocular PD.

I would be very careful if I was you. Might work great for very simple RX's but...

Thanks for your input. I know you "can" have a have a .5, because that's my measurement. I might look into a different site that may offer the .5. It just is not offered at zenni. I may call and speak to a different customer service rep.. I don't know. My prescription is pretty straightforward other than that. No bifocals or anything like that.

Once again, Coastal Contacts has glasses for only $6.95! They also allow you to put in a .5 for the PD. Mine was 61.5, and I could put that in without problems.

I have a very odd prescription and the only online place that could make it was Zenni. I pay over $300 for just one of my lenses normally and there are only a few places locally that have a lab that can do the script. So glasses easily run me over $600. At Zenni, I've gotten 2 spare pairs and a pair of sunglasses for about $60 per. The spare pairs had to be redone but they did a great job in the end. Their selection isn't the greatest but I was so happy to have extra glasses at a super reasonable price.

the blog glassyeyes.com is great for help in finding the best online place for you and for helping you get the exact measurements you need. HTH

also, I took my pairs to my opthamolgist to be checked and they were spot on. He was shocked when I told him they were from Zenni
