Online check-in

I have a question about online check-in.

I read somewhere that Disney was planning online check-in so that when you checked in online and then arrive at the resort, you could go directly to your room instead of going to the "online check-in" desk. In the article, it mentioned that this would be in effect as of March 2015 and for all resorts except FW. We are staying at GF in December so was wondering if this plan went through as planned.

As anyone else heard anything about this? Is it in effect and working? Does it work that simply?

After completing Online Check In you will have one of the following 3 experiences:

Bypass The Front Desk - You will receive an email about 2 weeks before your arrival saying Congratulations, you will be able to Bypass The Front Desk. When you arrive on property, you will get a text. If you room is ready, the text will have your room number. If it's not ready, the text will say so and then say you will receive another text once your room is ready. Either way you can now head to the parks if you want.

Streamlined Check In - Once completing Online Check In you will receive a pop-up stating you will be able to participate in the Streamline Check In process. Once you arrive at CBR, you will proceed to the Streamlined Check In Kiosk and hand the CM there your ID. They will check your ID and if your room is ready, they will give you your room number. If it's not ready, you will receive a text with your room number when it is. You can now head to the parks.

Online Check In - If do not receive the Bypass the Front Desk email nor the Streamlined Check In pop-up, when you arrive at CBR head to the Online Check In desk to the right of the normal check in desk. The CM there will check your ID and if your room is ready they will give you your room number. If it's not, you will receive a text with your room number when it is ready. You can now head to the parks.

Nobody has been able to figure out how they decide who gets to do what. We were traveling together with another family, on the same plane, on the same ME bus, same packages, etc and we were able to Bypass The Front Desk and they did the Streamlined Check In.

It's up and running and we have been able to use it for our last two resort stays.

If you have done online check in, have received your MagicBands and added a credit card from charging, then you might be eligible for the direct to room text service. Not every guest will be able to receive it, I'm not sure why. Anyway, you will receive an email a week or so before arrival date telling you that you might be eligible for the direct to room text. Then the morning of your arrival day you will receive text messages telling you if your room is ready or not. Once the room is ready you will be sent the room number and you can go directly to the room. It works really well. You can still go to the check in desk, though, if you have questions or want to check your room location first.

It worked for us on our recent trip. We had set up our 4 digit code on line and added the credit card. Our family member who did not, had to go to the front desk even doing on-line check in. It was great but weird to bypass it, felt like I was missing something

Since we are going to my wife's birthday celebration, would it be advised to stop by the front desk to pick up the button and extras?

yes, you can leave your bag with BS. You can pick up a pin at any GS location in the parks.

If our room isn't ready when we arrive we leave our bags with bell services.

You can pick up a button and maps, etc, at the Concierge desk, too, if the check in line is long. The YC had resort maps located on a table near the elevators.

If you bypass the entire front desk and just get your room number texted to you, please remember to check out having a resort map with you before you arrive. Nothing like getting a text saying, "you are in room XXXX in building Y" and arriving and having no idea where Building Y is.
