Online Check-In Forced Room Charge Capabilities?

I heard somewhere that when you do online check-in your room cards automatically have room charge privledges on the CC provided. Is this true?

We are going this fall with my whole family and while I trust everyone, I don't want them to accidentally provide their room card when they should be using their own CC.

You don't have to put any credit card on when you do online checkin. We didn't. And then when we got to the resort, at one resort we did end up putting a CC down for charges, even though it hadn't been done online.

If you DO put the CC in the form online, then it might cause such a problem...but you circumvent it by just not including the CC info during the online checkin.

We just got back from BCV and did the online check in without the CC since my brother would be joining us. When we got there we each put a CC number on our room key. When we checked out the bill had our charges and their charges but all the charges were put on our card. It probably took 30 min at the desk to get it fixed. We had totaled each bill for them but they had a hard time getting the bill correct. They did give us fast passes for our time (my sister in law asked for them.)

You can also supply a card when you check in online, but at the resort have charging privileges removed for specific members of the party. We do this---any "Disney Adult" is normally granted privileges, but the last thing I want is my 10 and 12 year olds to have carte blanche in the stores. So, we ask them to re-do their cards when we arrive. It only takes an extra minute or two.

When we travel with family, we just add the cc at checkin at the front desk. We tell them who will get charging and who will not. Works much better this way.

so what is the purpose of online checkin? Any particular advantage besides time factor?
