Online booking not pulling banked points first (9-2-20) (updated: it works, but one interim screen doesn't look right)

Just FYI: Now on hold w MS to get this fixed, but:

Due to covid, I had banked + current points in 2 RIV contracts (usually I try to use up 1 contract before going to the other). The little banked/current animation before booking says they take banked points from each contract before pulling from current UY points. No matter which contract I select to use first, it uses all the points from 1 contract before going to the next one. ARGH.

Example: reservation is 17 points, contract A has 5 banked and 5 current points (10 total), contract B has 12 banked and 15 current points (27 total).

If I select contract B first, it uses the 12 banked B and then 5 current B and doesn't touch A.
If I select contract A first, it uses all 10 A points, then only 7 banked B points.

:surfweb:

UPDATE: The interim screen, before commit, says this ^^ but then after confirming, if you go back in to the point usage details, it pulls the banked points first. (please I don't need more ridiculous stress today.)

It has always done that when booking with banked or borrowed points. It corrects the point allocations after you confirm your reservation.

I hate that it does that but I think it may have something to do with contract order and it doesn’t recognize the actual banked from contract 2 until it I confirmed.

At times it works correctly in the initial portion of the reservation and actually takes all banked points first. At others, it seemingly goes via contract using all points in the first listed contract before going to the second, regardless of whether there are banked points in the second, but then when you get to the end, it usually shows that banked points were actually taken first.

It is something that has been going on for at least a year and is a system issue that DVC is aware of, but, like so many problems with the online system in the past, it seemingly takes DVC IT forever and a day to get around to fixing, except that if it involves something anti-member, like a new resale restriction preventing the use of some of your contracts, the system change shows up immediately after being announced and never goes awry.

It hasn’t been working for me lately. I have had to manually make the non-banked points unavailable first (booking some random reservation) in order for the system to pull *only* banked points for a reservation.
It kept using all the points from the first selected contract regardless of if there were banked points in the second contract. Even when I clicked forward to the final confirmation, it still pulls the wrong points.
Very frustrating!

Were both contracts checked? Were you in the 7 month window if different resorts?

Did you have any borrowed points from the first contract? It would take those over banked from the second.

You have to actually book the resort as well, not just get to the confirmation page.

It is only after booked and you check the points summary or your dashboard. That’s where it should be correct.

Just trying to think about what it could be.

Yep both contracts checked, definitely within 7 mo window, no borrowed points, confirmed the reservation and it took the "virgin" annual allotment points from the first contract before touching the banked points in the second contract. I tried it twice before giving up and scouring the points chart to find something at SSR to book to tie up the points. It was a pain 'cause first I had to tie up the banked points, then tie up the "virgin" points, then release the banked points, and book the reservation I wanted, and finally release the "virgin" points. Phew...
In any case, I'd rather have the improvements (such as booking online with transferred points) still even if it causes older system functionality to get a bit messed up. Of course, it'd be nice if nothing got broken but it's Disney IT we're talking about so... lol

Darn. It’s never been a problem for me to work correctly..just that it doesn’t seem like it will until I actually book,

Ugg for you that you have to do that.

I’m glad (?) it wasn’t just me? I felt like I was being gaslit - and figured I’d hit commit and then call member services and sit on hold. The older booking windows had their issues, but at least it was clear where the points were coming from at each step of the way!
