One of our own was banned today. Since she has been banned, she has been unable to contact the moderators/webmasters as to WHY she was banned. The reason listed, according to the DIS terms of service, is NOT a ban-able offense. It is an offense that will earn you points, but not banning.

I think it would benefit all of the posters here on the DIS TB to know what is what when it comes to rules around here. We are confused - we want to know what we can do, and what we cannot do, and what the punishments are for each offense. When the Terms of Service say one thing, and the Creators of this site say another, how are we supposed to know how to act?

This is not meant to start trouble, this is meant to clarify how the creators of this site expect us to act. If we choose not to act that way, punishments should also be clarified.

We are frustrated. We are confused. We are upset because one of our own is no longer here with us because of misleading rules and punishments. If a mod or a webmaster could clear this whole brou-ha-ha up for us, we would be more than grateful.

I would love to know this too. I HIGHLY doubt that she did anything against the rules. I just want to know why my friend was banned.

It does censor it but they still see it as swear words being used.

Okay, if she cursed or whatever, the filter blocks it out anyways. So, really, what's the big deal? Also, I've NEVER heard of anyone being banned for that. You're supposed to only get POINTS.

lol I'm pretty sure I've never gotten points and I've had some words blocked out a good amount of times. That's BS if she just got banned for profanity.

On another site, we went by the same system. I got banned for building up a certain number of points. Maybe that's what happened here. :confused3

Copy and pasted directly from the Terms of Service:
2. NO PROFANITY: Simply put, don't use swear words and don't post or link to suggestive or inappropriate photos. The boards are equipped with censoring software. If you try to use a profanity, it will be filtered and appear as all asterisks. Please don't get creative in an attempt to bypass the filters. This is considered the same as using the word itself and will result in an infraction. If you post or link to pornography, you'll be banned from our site.
13. INFRACTIONS: The DIS guidelines are an important part in keeping the site family friendly. While the majority of our visitors abide by our rules, there are times when problems develop. In order to handle these issues consistently and fairly, we have developed an infraction system.

As you can see, the infractions have different point values. The majority of offenses will result in a warning via private message accompanied by infraction points which will expire according to schedule.

Yet, on the chart listed below, Filter Violation is listed as 30 points. So profanity is a point offense, not a ban offense. I'm very confused as to why someone was banned for single-time profanity when it's not listed as a ban-able offense.

Too many points, even if it's just for profanity, can result in a ban, though.

60 points - 10 day ban
80 points - 1 month ban
100 points - Permanent ban

I know. It might be the times when she kinda avoided the censor system but altering the spelling of words so they wouldn't be censored. idk.
Yeah, I don't think she does that; she's been around long enough to know that's a big no-no.

That's what I'm not clear on. Do you get points for simply using profanity (and letting the filter catch it) or trying to bypass the filter?

Mods, I'd like that cleared up as well.

I haven't been on lately but I'm almost sure I've used a few cuss words on a bad day of mine and I've never got points :/
And I agree that we would like to know the rules of this board I know theres a page somewhere with them but could Pete please come over hear and be more suspicate
Thanks,
Katie :)
