So I'm paying for my tolls at the Fl. Turnpike, and after giving the toll collector a $20 she gives me my change - but gives me the bills first, and then drops the coins on top of them. And these are fresh, crispy new bills. Trying to balance loose coins on flat, slippery bills with a left hand (weak hand for me) fully extended out the window and to the periphery will almost always result in dropped coinage, which is exactly what happened as expected.

Just think it would make more sense to give the person the coins first, then the bills no? Unless I am just not coordinated?

I hate when cashiers do this. The cashiers in my work cafeteria do this and I can't tell you how my times I end up drop the change after they put it on top of the bills.

Wasn't this just gone a couple minutes ago????? :confused3

I think there was another post by this poster that is now gone, not sure if maybe there was just a double post.

What I want to know is why you don't have a SunPass, I didn't think anyone that lived in FL used the regular tolls anymore...

Yes sorry, posted it twice by accident then deleted the one that had no replies.

I never use the turnpike unless I am traveling to south Florida, which is about once every six months.

This really isn't specifically about the turnpike but really about any kind of drive thru window where there is the handing over of money.

It's funny though how the cashier will hold the change in the bottom of their hand with the bills on top...

I guess what I'm thinking is, it must happen to other people too. And if it does, you'd think they would notice it and start giving the coins first.

E-pass/Sunpass is my friend...cost me $4 to buy it, I pre-loaded it with $20, then just drive. I dont always take the toll roads, but its nice to know the option is always there for me, and it always keeps a $20 min balance on it.

The proper way to do it is give the change back and then the bills since you are supposed to "count up" the change.

For example: Toll is $1.50.

You pay with a $10 bill.

The cashier should had you the change and say, ".50 makes two."

Then they should count up the bills as follows, "Three, four, five and five ($5 bill) makes 10."

No one ever seems to do that anymore. They just give you a wad a bills which you then need to count to make sure you received the right change.

WHy not keep a cup in your car for the toll cashier to put all the change and bills in?Seems like that would solve the whole problem.:confused3

That is one of my pet peeves too. It happens pretty much any time I go to the grocery store and get change back. It's not a huge deal or anything, just slight annoying.

I hate when ever anyone gives me change like this. I will put everything down and then will pick it up the change first and then the bills. If it slows them down that is their problem not mine. Are there people on the Dis here that do that as a matter of course?? What is the reasoning for doing it that way?

Well, it's my 2nd biggest pet peeve at the grocery store after the person in the check out aisle who waits to start writing the check until after everything is rung up, and then proceeds to enter it into the check log while everyone is waiting.
