My husband and I are coming into Orlando on a Friday night and need a place at Disney or near Disney for the night. Is it worth staying onsite for just one night. We will be leaving the following afternoon to go on the cruise. Everything is book but this one night.

Thanks for the Help!

IMO, I think staying at Disney is a good value especially when you can get a discounted rate. I don't have experience at staying at any outside hotels other than DD Courtyard and Double Tree. Though I perferred Double Tree---it was still a hotel that could be anywhere. I think for the money the atmosphere at an onsite Disney resort is so much better. I think you would really feel like your vacation had already started. If it were me, I'd go onsite at Disney with a mod resort with a discount . The rate would be about the same in many cases. Have fun!:)

If you go over to the cruise board I think you will find most people stay at or near the hotel. I may be wrong but I thought the port was in the opposite direction of WDW. The cruise board is a wealth ofinfo on this as quite a few cruisers fly in the day before.

We did this last week and it was awesome! We had an early flight on Wednesday and arrived at the Poly around 11:15. We had a quick lunch then spent the day on the beach and dipping in the pool to cool off. We then had dinner at the Kona Cafe(my favorite) and took a walk fromthe Poly down to the Wedding Pavillion. After that we went over to the Boardwalk for "dessert"(drinks) at ESPN and Jellyrolls. Walking back to MGM to take the bus, we took the path that goes right by Epcot and then to MGM. It was a nice little WDW fix, being able to see all the "icons", and ride the monorail before the cruise. Im sure staying at one of the hotels by the port may be more convenient and cheaper, but definitely not as magical. ;)

We're doing the same next summer. Check out the Dolphin's before and after cruise rate. I'm thinking it is about $149. If you are in the Disney Club, also check entertainment rate, it may be even better. That way you would have easy access to BW, have a great pool etc. I've never stayed there, but I've read on these boards that you "always" get an upgrade on check in if you ask, if they have better rooms available. And if you stay in the far east wing on one of the higher floors you can even see Illuminations. They have a Starwood Point program that may help with upgrades. You don't have to actually have any points accrued to receive a free upgrade from what I understand.

You can't go wrong staying onsite. Even if it costs a bit more, it's worth it in "memory" value. Will you really talk about how the bagels were at the nearby Holiday Inn or will you chat with friends & family about how Pooh invaded breakfast during a Character Caravan morning?

:p

If money is a factor--we have stayed at first night at Comfort Inn-Lake Buena Vista several times. Usually for about $30-40/night.

It's very close to WDW and easy to get into & out of.
