One nice meal - with kids???

We thought we might do one nice meal with our kids (aged 4 and 6). I know you will all say everywhere is lovely, but we are looking for non fast food, great service etc.

I have looked at Inventions and it is pricey, is it worth it?

Any other advice please. It will be for the Sat night of our trip

Innventions is nice and of course you get character interaction.
I've asked our troops DD8, DS5 and DD4 what their favourite meals were and Rain Forest Cafe they considered the best, followed closely by Annette's Diner

I haven't done Inventions myself, it is expensive but the reviews are always excellent, I don't think you can go far wrong with this one.
Cheaper options would be the Buffet Lunch/Dinner with Characters at the Lucky Nugget Saloon we're trying this for the first time next week, again always has good reviews, the Character Tea Party at Plaza Gardens, again a buffet mostly of mousses, cakes, pastries, ice-cream etc., although some people have reported sandwiches and pizza, don't know if that's only at certain times of the year.
Or Cafe Mickey in the Village, this restaurant opens all day right through from breakfast to about 11.00pm at night, again all the characters are present, you'll find the menu at Cafe Mickey

The ones above are all restaurants where characters are present. I noticed from one of your other posts that your celebrating a birthday, you can order a birthday cake at Cafe Mickey, to be brought out at the end of your meal (22 euros extra).
I've rung and reserved this option for my DS, but you can order the cake when you arrive at the restaurant.

Just to add, we have already booked a Character tea/birthday tea at Plaza gardens I think, and a character breakfast too for our last day. Buffalo bills for the Sunday night, so I was think one nice meal on Sat night.

At Inventions do you get all the characters wandering around at night too? Is it a good excuse to go and see the Disneyland hotel?

I have looked at the food boards and it does get good reviews but it is pricey, I need a bit of convincing.

If you want to go and have a look, you can just visit the Disneyland Hotel without having to make a reservation to eat there.

My DDs particularly enjoyed the Blue Lagoon restaurant in the Disneyland Parc (by Pirates of the Caribbean) - it was also a very lovely romantic (if that's possible with two small children ) place to eat with wonderful food for DH & me

My DDs also really enjoyed Annettes Diner and the food is great for its type, but it is burger chips / American diner variety so possibly not what you are looking for if it's a special occasion

Inventions is great. I love it and so does my son. Go at opening time for dinner and you'll have a lot of time with the characters

Cafe Mickey is also great (I think last time about 10 characters where there)

Depending on the time of year you go reservations should be made

Blue Lagoon restaurant is very nice (I loved the swordfish) but check the menu before you go as there is a lot of Fish on the menu. Not everybodies favorite.

You can go to City Hall and check the menu first and then make reservation.

I am not sure of Blue Lagoon as we are looking for dinner and it seems to close about 7pm at the mo (we are going next weekend) Otherwise I might have gone with that one.

I like the look of Annettes, but I want a non-junk food option. Mean I know.

We went to Inventions in Sep at the earliest sitting and there were loads of characters - Mary Poppins and Bert ,Chip and Dale , Eeyore , Tigger , Goofy , Pluto . The food was a selection which was quite varied . I prefered the starters and sweets to the main courses. It was expensive about 42€ per adult but they didn't get us to pay for DD who was just under 3 at the time so this made it slightly more on par with other places. I liked it but enjoyed Annettes too , although it's mainly fast food (not my fave ) the atmosphere was really good and they did have some healthier choices ie pasta for DD , Bacon and Avocado roll for me.Plus their milkshaes were to die for MMMM!!

I've heard good things about Walts but never been .

Our supper at Innventions for 2 adults and 3 children (thankfully 1 was free because she was 3) was €86.77. This included a 20% off Dream passport voucher or we would have been about €110.

We went to Inventions in October and food and atmosphere were great. We did not go there on our trip in March (and we did regret it when we had "dinner" in the Chuck Wagon) but we will certainly go the next time. Yes it is expensive, but we are sure now: we do not want to pay 40 euro for bad fast food!

Oh dear, the Chuck Wagon was our choice for dinner on our first night. We are flying in on a very early flight, spending half a day at Studios, checking in after 6pm and going back to the Cheyenne for an early night. Are there any better options close to us? Wondered about the restaurants at Sequioa Lodge and as we have a DD also, whether they are child friendly.

The Sequioa Lodge restaurants are lovely and it's a lovely walk around the lake but if you really want to go to Inventions go. I know it's hard when you think something is really expensive but you may regret not doing what you really want to do. Yes, they are child friendly - our two were given colouring crayons to colour in pictures on the menu which also contained mazes, puzzles etc. to keep them entertained while waiting for the food. They also received a little toy when we left as well. There was a buffet the children loved going and helping themselves too (especially the desserts!)

Can't understand this, Sandra. I booked to eat at Inventions for a Saturday night last August without any problem. They asked where I would be staying (Explorers) so knew I would not be staying at either DLH or another Disney hotel. This was on the busiest Saturday of August (pin trading day plus last weekend of Wishes).

Crunchiepink, although Inventions is pricey I think it is worth every euro.

Well I've gone with advise and booked Inventions. 6.30pm Next Sat night.

Looking at Menus like Rainforest cafe etc, it costs between 15 - 25 E for a mian course, 46E at Inventions doesn't seem so bad, perhaps 5E - 10E more, but with all you can eat seafood, steaks, desserts, characters, beautiful setting etc I think it is worth it.
