One more question about using DVC points on Moderate Resort....

I know it was posted that using pts for moderate is similar to a 1 BR for deluxe.

Does anyone have specific numbers to give me on what point value comparison we are talking about.

For example: I plan on using 160 pts for AKL trip in Oct. and then using my remaining 70 pts. for a second trip in March. I figured I could get more bang for my "pts buck" going to a moderate.

If it is similar to a 1 BR rate. What resort 1BR are we talking about.

Thanks.

My plan would be to use 70 pts for weekday room rate and then my wife has a "travel agent" discount for the rest of the week.

Sound right??

Thanks

Weekday points at the Moderate Resorts in March (2008) are 20 points for standard view and 22 points for water view. At SSR the points needed are 13 for a Studio and 27 for a 1BR weeknights and 29/54 for weekends. OKW and BWV points are less.

Be sure to compare "Standard View" rooms with Studios - as the 1BR villas are a very different experience with full kitchen, washer/dryer, jacuzzi and King Bed vs double beds in the moderate.

You will not get "more bang for your buck" by trading out of the DVC system, which is what staying in Moderates (or deluxes) is. Also, when you book, you trade out your DVC points. If you have to cancel that reservation, you don't get your DVC points back, but instead get "reservation points" which are only good for certain outside the system bookings.

If your goal is to get the best, longest accomodations for your remaining 70 points, stick with DVC locations. OKW has the lowest point requirments of them all.

Also be aware that you will have to pay a $95 transaction fee to stay at a moderate.
