One more Logan question

We are debating whether to take Logan Express into the airport or whether to park in central parking for our December trip. While Logan Express is cheaper, it is a bit more of a hassle than just driving in to the airport. For about $60 more we could just drive into the airport and park. My question is about handling the large amount of luggage. Do they have any of those carts or dollys available at central parking so we can haul all our stuff to the terminal or are we going to have to take multiple trips. Are there any other down sides to central parking that I am not aware of?

I think it depends on the time of day that you are planning on getting to central parking. Early in the morning, or late at night is the easiest. You could get dropped off, with all the luggage, at departures, then have the driver head to central parking to park. I also believe there is some kind of 'valet' service that will take your car and park it in one of the off-site lots, and then return it to you when you get back to the airport. Not sure of the name or if it's a good deal.
We have found central parking to be hugely crowded and try to avoid it if at all possible. But, I do like having my car right there, rather than worry about using the Logan Express. Especially if you have a latish flight coming home. I had a friend who's flight got delayed and the buses had stopped running for the day by the time they got to Logan...had to take a cab back to Framingham to get their car!!! Not a happy camper!

Last fall we had a friend drive us to the Logan Express. We use the one in Braintree which is right across from South Shore Plaza. We were flying to Europe & had an evening flight & had the friend bring us to Logan Express in time for her to get home before the start of evening rush hour. Our return flight was also early evening so no one minded picking us up at 7:30 pm. We were gone for 2 weeks so the parking fees wd have been very high. I don't mind asking someone to drive us somewhere easy to get to & it only takes 20 minutes. I wd never feel comfortable asking someone to drive us to Logan. Another option is to have someone leave your car the night before at the Logan Express. We did this once when only my daughter & I traveled & my son & a friend left my car there(my son cdn't pick us up because he was at work when we got in). I just gave the friend some gas money & gave them money for pizza. If you have responsible teenagers in your neighborhood this might work. Unfortunately for our 7am flight the Tues before Thanksgiving we will not be getting a ride from anyone!

Our inbound flight is at 7am and we would be arriving at Logan by 5am so I doubt that overcrowding will be a problem. Also, our flight lands at about 8:30pm so it would be nice for the kids to not have to take the Logan Express bus back to Woburn. Because we are leaving so early I would have a problem having friends drop us off anywhere. The more I think about it, the more I think that central parking might be the way to go for us.

Thanks for the input!

Would it be worth it for you to hire a car service to drop you off, and pick you up at Logan? We've done this the past couple of times we've flown in February. For us, Logan Express would have cost around $150 between the bus tickets, and parking at Braintree. The car service was $180 for the round trip. The additional money was worth it to us for door to door service.

Sorry, probably not helpful to add another option to the mix, huh? :)

OT: Under a few circumstances you can get the airline to pay for the difference in cost of the ground transportation because of the flight delay.

Particularly if you asked about taking a flight the next day (the airline's choice subject only to seats in the same section of the plane) and the airline refused to change your tickets for free. Not that this idea would do you any good because you are on your own for a hotel back in Orlando.

At any rate the cab probably did not cost more than the added cost of parking directly at the airport.

I would not book with any service (either Airport Express or Disney Limo) that requires a prepayment that I would forfeit if the plane was delayed making me a no-show for the service.

It wasn't a monetary issue, it was a hassle issue. Just one more thing I wouldn't want to have to worry about at the end of my trip.
