One more booking question please

So here’s the story.
We have a February use year and booked 4 nights in February using points. We’re going to add a few nights cash with a bounce back discount but the dates we needed were blacked out from the bounce back offer so we booked the bounce back same as existing dates and waitlisted the the other dates we need. Now we saw the new discount for AP and probably just going to pay cash for entire stay.
If I cancel the DVC reservation those points will go back to my 2024 use year where they came from correct?
Also when do I need to cancel by so points don’t go into holding or something, how far in advance must I cancel.

Correct - if any were banked or borrowed, they would stay in your 2024 UY, too.

Also when do I need to cancel by so points don’t go into holding or something, how far in advance must I cancel.

At least 31 days before checkin, so late December or early January, depending on your dates.
