One in seven (14%) of Floridians has been infected with COVID, Disney World reopens in 1 week?!

This is my fear as well. We’ve cancelled our August trip, not that it looks like DLR will be open then anyway. I’d never forgive myself if I was the one that brought this virus to my town. We haven’t had a single case yet.
Love DLR. Its so sad when we have to cancel. I’ve never had to cancel a vacay ever. Where do you like to stay for DL trips?

Same, never had to cancel before and we’re so sad! We’ve stayed at the Tropicana, Desert Inn and Suites and Best Western Park Place. We don’t spend much time in the room so I’m more concerned about location. I love that 5 minute walk to the parks!

We stay at The Anaheim Hotel. Great location too. It’s the one with the Pizza Press out front! Easy to come back for afternoon break! On Harbour & Disneyway. Location is everything! I looked at Tropicana but didn’t like pool in the middle of parking lot!
One day we’ll be back. We usually get 5 day hoppers.

I’ll have to check that one out. I’m always open to trying new places to stay that are close! We aren’t huge swimmers so the pool location isn’t a dealbreaker for us but I can definitely see why some wouldn’t like the Tropicana’s pool location!

Me too. I’ve wanted to try the BW but never found a good price. Anaheim isn’t fancy, but it’s clean, Olympic pool, and pretty grounds. Feels like a vacay! And love Pizza press!

Don't forget - anyone coming back from USA right now would be required to go straight home and self-isolate for 14 days, so they wouldn't be out in the community (assuming they follow the rules of course).

big kid and I went last year and there is no continental breakfast ive ever seen like Candy Cane Inn. Unbelievable ham and cheese croissants and fruit and cheese.. seriously incredible . We too don’t spend a lot of time on the room but we’re very satisfied with Candy Cane.

Thanks for the hotel suggestion @TammyLynn33 . When this is all over a trip to Disneyland is definitely on my bucket list. I love a clean hotel with a good breakfast. It doesn't have to be fancy just clean. Walkable to Disneyland is a real plus also.

Is it walkable? I’ve heard about it but can’t place where it is.

I feel bad for all the people who wear masks and social distance. It must be beyond frustrating.
My biggest fear right now is Canadians that will flood the gates of WDW when they open the border.
Why are are fearful of Canadians?

Sorry I reread my post and just wanted to clarify. I’m worried that Canadians will flood USA when the border opens and bring back the virus here. We are doing well controlling this thing and don’t want to go back to square 1.
That makes sense. I agree. I want to keep our numbers low too. I'm grateful for the hard work we have done.

Finally... or more like, OMG, Walt Disney World has reopened today since my initial post last weekend.

I watched the Youtube live broadcast this afternoon. There were a couple of Youtubers spending a few hours there. My kids and I feel like as if we are in the park. It's a "virtual tour". They have made some changes. Honestly, I think those changes are good but not effective if the outbreak rate in Florida remains high. For example, they added plexiglass barriers inside Snow White Mine train wait-line but it's an indoor wait so the dirty air probably will linger around for a while with or without that plexiglass. Everyone needs to wear a mask to enter and the line attendant CM also wears a face shield in addition to the mask.

The wait for food is long because they are serving a lot slower / less people. The monorail is partitioned inside each wagon so they fit one family at the time. Instead of a scheduled parade, they use small unannounced character floats to people will not form crowds to wait at the curbside. Even if you see a parade, it's so short that by the time you line up, it's over. So that idea is clever to prevent crowd forming / gathering.

By my rough visual estimate, the WDW park current design is spaced out to handle only about 10% of the crowd as before the pandemic. I just don't see how Disney can operate with a 90% loss in business volume.

So I just read Florida hit 15,000 new cases today and 500 deaths this week alone. And the scary thing is it’s too soon to know how many of the 50,000 + new cases Florida had this week will die. It’s so sad. And it’s even more sad that so many people in Florida are more concerned with things like theme parks opening 😞
