Putting aside the dilemma that obviously a single day isn't enough time....how should I plan for 1 day at DL?

I've been to the park 4 times before, but not since around 2011, so I'm not sure how much has changed.

Me and a friend are visiting the area for some ballgames and wanted to do a day at the park because he hasn't been n many many years. We are both mobile and not going to get tired walking around, so we should be a fast moving mini group.

Basically our objective is to go to as many of the "thrill" rides as possible, and not missing some of the classics (Pirates, mansion, Pan I think, etc).

Well be there for rope drop etc.

I'm thinking our approach to start the day would probably be Pan, get SM fast pass, Matterhorn, Indy...and from there potentially use the FP and/or Pirates/HM, before playing it by ear for Splash, Big Thunder, maybe star tours etc.

At some point we probably would grab a quick bite somewhere, but I'm not sure what are the preferred counter service options anymore.

Other than the limited timeframe, is this a completely wrong approach? Recommendations?

It can be done. There's even a couple of plans from Touringplans.com, which is the online version of The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland book. You can get the book at the library and take what you like from the plan. You could also download their mobile app and get it on your phone. Here's a description from their website (I have a Disneyland short-term subscription)

Author's Select One-Day Plan
This Touring Plan is selective, including only attractions that, in the author's opinion, represent the best Disneyland Park has to offer. Assumes a willingness to experience all major rides (including roller coasters) and shows.

One-Day Touring Plan for Adults
If you have only one day but wish to see as much as possible, use the One-Day Touring Plan for Adults. This plan will pack as much into a single day as is humanly possible, but it is pretty exhausting. It assumes a willingness to experience all major rides (including roller coasters) and shows.

Hope that helps!

Your plan sounds good. When are you going? Are you fine with completely not doing California Adventure and not seeing Carsland?

Thx all. We will be there Friday.

Given that we have just the 1 day, we thought it best to stick to one park to get a more fulsome experience.

My best advice is to NOT jump around the park. Do everything you want in one area before moving on. I think people waste way too much time & energy jumping around the park.

I would let Peter Pan go. 45 min wait is too much time when you only have one day. If you really want to do it make it your last ride of the night & jump in line right before park closing so you don't lose park time waiting.

Don't forget to download the free DLR app. It will help you make the most of your time in the parks.
