one-day park-hopper w/ no genie+, or one-day single park WITH genie+ in July?

Hi everyone! I tried to find my answer and I'm not seeing it. If I try to buy a one-day park hopper I somehow *cannot* add Genie+ (I am not given the option) but if I try to buy a one-day, one-park ticket, I am given the option to add Genie+ for $25. I'm super confused. Why would it be available to me with one park but not two? Am I doing it wrong? If this is in fact the parameters I'm given, the next question is, should I buy the park hopper without the genie+ or go one-park only and get it. We'll be there on Tuesday July 18. It's me, my 19 year old son and his girlfriend. She has never been to a Disney park. The two of us are experts and don't have to do it all, but we definitely want to show her the best highlights we can in one day.

Our original plan was to park hop starting in DCA, bang out all the big rides there before 11, and then head over to DL for the rest of our ticketed day (til Midnight). Maybe going back to DCA but not having to. But, without Genie+ I am reconsidering...do we just do Disneyland with Genie+?

Two other alternatives. We were not going to go to parks on both days since we arrive in the afternoon on our first day, but I can buy a two-day single park ticket for them, one day each park, and they roll into DCA early Monday afternoon with no genie plus and do what they can until close, and then do Disneyland all day the next day with me, again without the genie+ (but with a rope drop morning as well as a super late til closing night and a nap somewhere in between). A two-day one-park ticket comes close to a one-day park hopper with Genie+, if I had been given the option.

Also, one last question, can I potentially add Genie+ day of? I just want to maximize our time in the parks, and I'm afraid without Genie+ we're kinda screwed.

I bought a one day hopper with genie plus a few weeks ago for a day in July. I wonder why you couldn't?

OK I think it was just a glitch. I tried again this morning and it all worked. Phew!
