One day- MK or HS help me decide

We’re taking a 3 night cruise over MLK weekend. The ship returns Monday Jan 20. Our kids 6,9 are off from school the following day as well so I’m considering adding a single park day when we get off the ship. We’re using our own car so I’m guessing we’d get to the parks by 1030/11am, and stay until closing. Then spend the night in a value resort and drive home Tuesday morning. We live in NC so approx 8 hours.

We booked the cruise as a quick and relaxing getaway after traveling to visit family over Christmas break. A park day is prob the least relaxing way to end a cruise but definitely the most fun!

If we decide to do it should we head to MK and ride all our favorites or do we go to HS and check out the new stuff? We have yet to see Toy Story Land and would be interested to walk through GE but aren’t huge Star Wars fans. We spent easter week in DL so we have had the chance to enjoy the classics, but you can never really do them too many times in my opinion.

MK has an after hours event that night so both parks close at 8/9pm I believe. What would you do? I really want to check out slinky dog but I worry that the cost of one day tickets would be really high for possibly just a few rides in HS with the FP tiers. I feel like MK would give us more bang for our buck but I’m still undecided.

Thoughts?

Check the park hours for that day. If MK closes early because they are having a MVMCP that night, it closes at 6, not 8!!!! You won't have many hours in the park if you arrive mid-day and there will be no fireworks! In that case, I think you'd have a much better time going to HS for the day and staying until Fantasmic. If your kids like Star Wars, even if you can't get into the new ride, you can wander in the "land" which is supposed to be awesome, and you should DEFINITELY get Fast Passes for Slinky Dog Dash, and try to go on Toy Story Mania!! All that said, if there is an MVMCP at MK, as I mentioned, another option would be go and check into your hotel, and instead of buying a one day base ticket for the family, get tickets to that party!!! You can go to MK at 4 PM and stay until about 1 AM and have a truly magical time! So my vote would be MK with party tickets (not regular tickets where they will kick you out at 6 PM and there will be no fireworks AND the park will be VERY crowded that day).
