The kids would like to do one day at the beach. I was wondering how far it is to the gulf coast or would this just be a total waste of a day. I wasn't sure where to post this. Also which beach would you go to?

Hi there,

When we visited Disney in 2009 my parents drove up from New Smyrna Beach for a few days (they were there for two months). It was about an hour's drive I believe. It's not far from Daytona Beach but smaller and less crowded. They love the beach there and say it's a regular destination for "Disney" visitors that want a beach day. It has easy "public access" to the beach as well (so they tell me). Hope this helps!

When we were there we drove over to Clearwater, its about an hour and a half. It is so beautiful and is known for the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Plus when we went there we got al kinds of sea shells. I can't wait to go there again.

Clearwater or St Petes (or both!!) get my vote, and on the way back do a detour to drive across the Sunshine Skyway. Best dollar you'll ever spend!!!!

Clearwater gets our family vote. Planning for a day in March to visit the beach

Personally, I like New Symrna Beach best. While Clearwater and St. Pete are beautiful the water is very warm in the summer, almost like taking a bath instead of a dip in the ocean because they are on the Gulf of Mexico side (west) but New Symrna is on the Atlantic (east) plus it is not as big of a draw as Daytona or Cleanwater or St. Pete's.

Just my thoughts.

Clearwater, hands down! We have been to both coasts, and I was really umimpressed with the Atlantic. The gulf is white sands and clear water - just what we are always looking for.
The Clearwater Beach area has lots of great lodging, restaurants and shopping, not to mention a really fun pirate cruise! (Captain Memo's). It takes about 90 minutes to get to the coast and its such a beautiful drive! Lots to see and do.
Best of luck in your choice!! :thumbsup2

Thanks guys!!! I've been to the Alantic side many times and didn't really care for it. I can't wait to try the Gulf side and since it will be in December Not sure if we'll be able to go swimming anyway. Hopefully we will. Can't wait!!!
