I’ve been there a couple of times. The take-offs are pretty gnarly and send people literally flying. People have been injured and even killed there by the plane’s jet blast. We watched from a safe distance, LOL.

Maho Beach in St Maarten. The airport is right next to it so planes land over top of people and people will stand by the fence when planes are taking off (a really bad idea, IMO).

Last time we were there, the beach was just way too crowded for my taste, so we just took a quick look and moved on.

That perception of danger is why many people flock to almost anything in life.

Getting a rush of dopamine and adrenaline because you triggered the fight or flight response.

We only saw landings when we were there, which was really cool. That looks unpleasant LOL.

My wife correctly wouldn't let us move any further to the right of where we were standing so we got to observe without being blasted by the sand!

Very clearly saw your vantage point for observation and knew who had the good sense to do so

DH and I visited in 2016 and I was too afraid to get closer than about 200 feet from the flight path. Dozens of brave people, including DH stood or sat directly beneath. Landings, not takeoffs.

It was thrilling enough from a distance.
