Hi all,

My daughter invited a friend to join us for our MLK weekend at DL. Her parents haven't said yes yet, they are thinking about it. In the event she does indeed come along, as they are 5 and 6 years old, and I'll be the only adult, which rides won't we be able to do?

I know a child has to be 7 to ride alone. Some rides only have rows of 2. I think a 6 year old needs an adult in the same row, don't they? What about rides like Mr Toad? We all fit in one vehicle, but not in one row. They aren't tall enough for Indi or California Screeming but everything else they are.

Thanks for the help, this will be my first time with two kids if it does indeed happen!

You shouldn't have too much of a problem. As long as you can all fit in the same ride vehicle, you should be fine. As an example, you could ride Space Mountain, with the girls directly in front of you. An example of a ride where you might have problems would be Dumbo. If all 3 cannot fit in the elephant, you wouldn't be able to ride.

I've seen others comment in the past that two young kids can sit in a row together with an adult directly behind them. However, I would caution against getting the kids' hopes up because I think it depends on the CM loading the cars. I say this because I once stood in line at Screamin next to a dad and his twin sons who had never been on the ride before, and he was talking it up to them through the whole line. Once we got loaded into the cars with the kids sitting together (they were right behind me), the CM stopped and talked to them about their age, and after a few minutes' discussion they had to get off the ride. I felt bad because it was their first time and they didn't have a second adult - I would have volunteered to sit with one of them but my harness was locked so I couldn't get their attention.

That said, they might be more strict on that ride because it's a big coaster. If they are too short for Screamin off the top of my head I don't think there are many rides that would be a problem. Space Mountain might be. But I think most rides can seat one adult and two small children in a single row.

The swings you won't be able to do, under 7 needs an adult to sit in the tandem swing with them. I would talk to the CM at the entrance, each ride has its own rules about how they can sit under 7s. Make sure the girls know beforehand about how they might not be able to ride everything due to this so they are not as disappointed when they get there.

Thanks. I think the friend is too scared for Space anyway (DD's favorite!). At Dumbo I can try the elephant off to the side before getting in line, so that's ok.

I went once with another family and I know on one ride a CM said the kids couldn't ride together and needed an adult. Maybe Big Thunder? But we should fit all three no problem. The kids are small girls and I'm a medium sized lady so we should be able to squeeze. It would be so much fun for my daughter to bring a friend! It's always just the two of us.

Thanks, yes good advice to ask the CM at the entrance of the line before getting in! I've already talked to both of them about that, and cautioned DD that if she brings a guest, and the guest doesn't want to do certain rides, then we don't do them. I've also talked to her friend and told her that if she wants to come, she needs to try new things. Right now her default is she's too scared to go on anything. In any case, we go often so I'm good to play it by ear. It will be crowded with the Half Marathon anyway, so I'll just be happy to be there!

I think that plays to your advantage in this situation. I don't know the official rule, but the two examples we've come up with of kids not being allowed to sit together without an adult were both coasters, and maybe that's so the kids don't misbehave and put themselves in danger, like by wriggling out of the lap bar. I would guess and hope that they are more lenient on safer rides.

I'd be careful with what some have said about 2 kids riding in the front and an adult in the back. I took my son, who is 5, and my twins, who are 2, with my husband recently. I took 2 kids with me and my husband took 1 since we had to split. In some cases, we were fine. In others, depending on the CM, my 5-year-old had to ride in the same row as me. And it wasn't always just the faster rides. One of them was Snow White. When I asked why, they said that on most of the rides, an adult is required in the same row as each kid under...is it 7 or 8? I can't remember. It primarily depends on the type of restraint system and if there's any way kids could get out easily while the ride is moving without an adult next to them. I agree with others who said to check with the CM at the front of each ride.

On Buzz about a week and a half ago they made a family ride 3 together because the kids were under 7.

We've done this frequently with my 4yo granddaughter and 4yo nephew. They haven;t been tall enough for Screamin' yet. But any ride where they can be in the same vehicle, we have been ok'ed to have them in front of us, such as Space. Under 7 needs to have someone 14 or older with them in the vehicle. We have had where my 4yo granddaughter wanted to ride with her 12 and 10yo cousins on Maters, and had to be moved to a ride vehicle with her 14yo cousin. But there was no problem with the 4yo with the 10yo in front of me on Space. For us, the issue has simply been to have then in the same ride vehicle as me.

And yes, on Buzz, all 3 of you would need to be in the same vehicle.

I always have to ride with my kids they will just now be able to ride alone this trip, didnt have a problem on any ride, space my son sat in front of me and my dd I think a lot of the rides like snow white they let him sit in one row and me us in the other in pretty sure big thunder we were all in one row and a lot of the rides you can all fit together!

Just wanted to report back. The only ride I was turned away from was Go Go Gadget Coaster. Go figure!

Gadget is a pretty tight fit. I'm the only adult in my household who can ride that one with my daughter at all. The guys are big and well over 6 feet and... yeah. It does not surprise me that it was a no-go. :) Glad it was the only one.

That's funny. We went in May and DS (2) was finally tall enough to ride. I was pregnant and wasn't sure if I wanted to ride. They told my husband he could sit next to our son and that my DD (~5) could sit in front of them.
