As long as we're talking shoes, I am wondering if anyone here wears Mephisto shoes??? I am trying to find some really good sandals, and I have tried so many I lost count. I have never wanted to pay the price for Mephistos, but after having them recommended by many store people and one travel catalogue, I thought I might try them. Any opinions???

Thanks.

Erika

I have never tried Mephistos, but may I suggest Birkenstocks? I have worn them for years, and they are wonderful sandals, good for a lot of walking. They can be resoled also.

My wife and I each have a pair, and we don't think they are worth the $$. The Timberlands and Sebagos I have had in the past are just as good at half the price.

After reading great things about them on these boards (the old ones), I bought my first pair of Teva sandals a couple of weeks ago. I love them and have worn them almost everyday since I got them. Granted, it did take me a couple of days to get the straps adjusted perfectly, but now that I figured that out they're great. I bought the Teva Circuit style, which is a walking sandal with a shock pad in the heel. I am not normally a sandal person since I have terrible feet (Previous heel spur surgery, heel spur in other foot that's not been operated on yet, broken bone in foot, plus I strained my Achille's tendon last fall). Needless to say, comfortable shoes are a must for me. Check out the Teva sandals on their web site www.teva.com I did some reading on that site before I made the decision on what style to buy. You can order over their website, but I was able to find mine in a local mall. If you have a small foot, www.rei-outlet.com has a great deal on the Teva Circuits for $40, but the largest size they had was a 7. If you do buy Teva's look for a style that has an adjustable heel strap. It really helps to custom fit the sandal to your foot.

i work at nordstroms and MEPHISTOS are supposed to be the most comfortable made shoe sandal boat shoe whatever.

i know three people who wear their mephisto sandals literally all summer every day. one of the people just started working there he used to be a customer the second person is a customer who comes in and just sits to watch tv and the third person is the mephisto vendor who sells us the shoes. He has a ton of shoes and wears the sandals!!! with a suit!!!!!!!!!!!.

theres an open toe sandal called the shark. and a closed toe sandal called the sam both 230. both incredible. sometimes people see the price of tevas and forget how there feet feel they think that they feel just as good as the 230 sandals yeah right. they are 230 for a reason. after you were those tevas where do they go? the garbage. after you were down the mephisto you can send it back to mephisto and 85 dollars they redo the entire sandal the upper and soles. THE POPE WEARS MEHISTO!!!!!!!!! even though the name mephisto does mean devil lolol they offer the best back support stability and spine support you dont get that from a dinky 75 dolaar teva thats why they are only 75 bucks for a reason

Thanks for your replies. I have had a pair of Teva Circuits for a year, but the backstrap, being adjustable, is so stiff, it rubs the back of my foot. I can't wear Teva's without the adjustable strap either, because they don't sell half sizes.

How about Ecco, I have bought a pair of those also, and I am trying to decide. I may just end up wearing my Easy Spirit walking shoes in August LOL.

Eccos are the shoes i wear everyday but as far as there sandals go i heard they are comfy but you are seriously sacrificing any kind of style whatsoever. There job is comfort and only comfort. at work we say the level of comfort is rockport then ecco then mephisto. The big M bieng the best. Everyone has different feet try them all on as i type here at school im wearing havana joe baby

Any one wear Born shoes? My DH wears them to work and swears they are the MOST comfortable shoes ever. I have found some sandals, but I'd like opinions before I spend $75.00 on a pair of sandals.

Teva's are great for the water rides but be sure they are really well broken in (each season). I bought my first pair of Tevas and Mephisto's (closed in shoes) for our trip Nov 99. I made it a point to break in both. Still got some blisters by the end of our 10 days but not as bad as usual. I got my Teva's out to where a couple of weeks ago and I got huge blisters after the first day. So... the moral of the story is I have to get used to them all over again.
Now on to the question of Mephisto's - I think the are the best so I bought my first pair of Mephisto sandals. I wore them to work on Wednesday and rubbed a huge blister on the ball of my foot. Had to wear my Teva's the past couple of days while my feet recover. I am confident once I get the Mephisto's broken in, I will be fine. I will be there in early Aug and again in Dec, I can't imagine wearing anything but sandlals in August.
