On the nine night Norway cruise tomorrow..with no clothes.

You can get a small but nice wardrobe for $500 each. You basically are getting a $500 clothes shopping spree each.

If you are outside of the normal sizing range for the country you are in, you are NOT getting anything close to a *nice* wardrobe, small or not, for that amount of money. Even in the US if you're extremely tall and/or 2XL and up, your inexpensive clothing options are few and far between. On our first WDW trip it was December 2010 and we had a long trip. The cold snap surprised us. We FROZE. Both of us were well into plus sizes. Disney had nothing. Target had nothing cheap. (we don't go to walmart so it doesn't even enter our brains) I had brought a few warmer items so I survived, but my poor husband, knowing that Casual Male would set him back a ton of money, just shivered the whole time.

They'll find your luggage- they're never lost permanently so you'll get everything back.

While finding luggage happens often, it's not true that they are never lost permanently. It certain can happen. Otherwise places like this wouldn't, couldn't, exist: http://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/

(makes me ill, to think of lost luggage being sold like that, instead of the airlines making every single effort to reconnect the items with the people who BOUGHT the items in the first place)

It is extremely rare that a piece of luggage is lost permanently. It wouldn't even be a worry for me, it happens so rarely.

If you know how to shop (anywhere), you can get a decent little wardrobe for $500. Lots of stores much better than Target have plus sizes-even cute, trendy stores like Topshop or Forever 21.

The point is this isn't the end of the world and you can make some fun out of it by getting some new things.

I can see how luggage could never make it to the rightful owner.

- Owner doesn't put in a claim with the airline
- No luggage tag with contact information
- Outdated/incorrect information on the luggage tag

Yes, they put a sticker with a barcode and the paper tag around the handle, but stuff happens and it can get ripped off.

When you are checking your bags ALWAYS look at the luggage tag the airline puts on you bag and double check that it is being sent to the right airport.

This would be my problem: I can't shop in my home town, why would it be "fun" to shop in another town?

I'm not really plus sized but I am curvy. If I head in to Gap to buy curvy jeans, they tell me they are only available online. I even tried to buy a swimsuit while on vacation in Honolulu and could not find one! I am grateful that Amazon starting carrying clothing, particularly bras!

But because replacing my clothing is difficult, I do carry extra clothes in my carry on. -- Suzanne

Yep. Even with several shopping malls within an hour of home, I hate clothes shopping because it's so hard to find what I want. I really don't want to spend valuable vacation time searching for suitable clothes.

Sorry to follow up so late. Our clothes finally arrived on Friday afternoon. Less than 24 hours until our onboard time.

The cruise was amazing. Unfortunately, twice while standing in line at member services, there were people in front of me who had no luggage and were frantic.

This appears to be a huge issue with SAS currently and I would not fly them.

Birdie Dog - Was I standing in line with you on embarkment day in palo's reservations? The Lady behind me was waiting on her 1 bag, that had not show up (It had but her MIL had not accepted it at the hotel) and the 2 ladies behind me had been in Copenhagen for 3 days without their bags and finally got them on Friday before the cruise. It all sounded very frustrating. I know when we got to Stravanger our first port, there was about 4 or 5 bags waiting to be picked up, so apparently there were several others that had luggage issue.

Yes! I was trying to get a brunch reservation and the lady in front of me had her luggage lost, the airline found in and her inlaw refused it. (OMG!) There was also a man whose luggage didn't arrive at Guest Services trying to figure out the next steps to getting his bags and another man who had to work over the vacation and all the stuff he needed to work hadn't arrived. There were some huge luggage snafus for that cruise but it was the best trip ever!

When we left Copenhagen the first week in June, we were told SAS was having labor contract issues with the baggage handlers and other employees. I wonder if this played an unintentional (or intentional?) part in all the luggage snafus?

Staff at our hotel said the same thing. They are very disappointed in SAS and they said that the bag crisis has actually become just that.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise under the circumstances! It will be part of the memory and fun story to tell!!

Sorry, forgot to add I'm glad you got your bag! My bag (small and purple) made it to Iceland for our pre-cruise part of our trip but someone took it from the shuttle bus lot and left their small purple bag in it's place. The abandoned bag had no info in it, but thankfully whoever took mine brought it to lost and found at the airport the next day. I was really bummed thinking I was going to have to either share clothes with my 72 yo mother (granny panties anyone?) or spend precious vacation time shopping for clothes for my curvy body.

Well. I thought I might update this thread as JUST TODAY I deposited the $580 check that Scandinavian Air gave me for my trip to Copenhagen with no clothes. FWIW, they're late with clothes as well as compensation.

However, my clothes did arrive from Chicago on the Friday afternoon flight and we had everything we needed when we boarded the Magic Saturday morning for the most amazing trip of our lives. We were at the airport pretty much jumping up and down and hugging and I think everyone there thought we were crazy.

This happened to us one year when we were taking a SKI trip! I had all of the snow clothes packed in the lost luggage. Now, I make everyone wear their snow boots and carry their coat when we go on ski trips-- and these are the only trips I even check bags (simply too much clothing). Everything else we travel with international carry-ons, one per person. You have to really plan what you are going to wear, but it can be done!
