We're looking to stay at one of Universal's on site hotels - any of the three for just one night Febuary 26th which is a Friday. It's *not* a busy time of year and I highly doubt they will be anywhere close to capacity.
So ... The only deals I see are for longer stays. Do they ever have good deals for single night rates? Will I be likely to get a good deal if I wait til towards the end? Do they sell their rooms on sites like expedia etc.?
I'm not an AAA member and I don't live in florida etc.
What kind of rate should I even be hoping for? Right now the lowest price is $294 for one night before taxes which seems high to me.

Rack rate tends to be quite high. Remember the Universal Hotels are comparable to the deluxe hotels at Disney.

It might be worth it to get a AAA membership. Call and ask what they have to offer. There are also obstructed view rooms that you can sometimes get.

Lots of schools around the country have that week off for winter break. While it isn't spring break busy, it isn't a low time by any means. Disney considers this time peak season equivalent to spring break on pricing.
