How does it work? Do you go online the day before you arrive? The day of? A week before? Is it anymore involved then clicking a few things and entering information?

What are advantages/disadvantages compared to checking in at the resort itself? Obviously online check in would be best if you are going to hit a park as soon as you arrive but since we will be getting there around 7 P.M. we are planning on just hanging around the hotel and having dinner the first night.

Also we have a King Bed Room at POFQ so I don't see how there will be much jockeying to get a better room when we arrive (I think I read somewhere on here that you can see what rooms are available if you check in at the resort).

Any help is greatly appreciated :goodvibes

We did online check-in the day before we were to arrive. It's just some simple information, and they ask for an estimated time of arrival. I didn't see anything that indicated room location or room choice. There's a special online check-in line at the resort, and ours was definitely shorter than the general check-in line.

Unfortunately, for some reason our online check-in did not get through the system, and they didn't have our stuff ready. I think if everything works correctly, they already have your receipts printed, room keys ready to go, etc. and it probably cuts a few minutes off the check-in time.

Luckily, the our CM just checked us in anyway, instead of sending us to the standard line. That was appreciated.

Online check in can be done starting 10 days before you arrival date.

The advantages are:

  • Your packet and key are prepared ahead of time, so you don't have to hang out at the front desk while they do that.

  • If you want to add a credit card to your account for incidental charges, you can save a few minutes by doing that online.

  • You get to stand in a separate line at the check-in desk, which may or may not be faster than the regular check-in line
If you're the kind of guest who doesn't have a lot of questions for the front-desk CM, if you don't think you'll want to change your room assignment at check-in, and if the idea of being able to walk up, show a photo id, take your packet and go appeals to you, then you're a good candidate for online check-in.

If you enjoy chatting with the front-desk CM while they make up your packet and key, or if you have requests on your reservation and are planning to ask for a room change if the room they initially assign you doesn't meet your requests, then there's really no advantage to doing online check-in.

Thanks so much! Any idea if the check in at POFQ will be busy at 7 p.m. on a Saturday? Seems like maybe it will be.

I always use online check-in. I have had room changes done at check-in without any problems. For ex. At POP on my mom/son trip I said I was glad to be back for 6th visit. She pulled out map and asked me to pick what area I wanted! I got a great 4th floor lake view! Also I asked for a different area to be closer to pool at CSR. The changes were done quickly and I was on my way. Most times I just grab what they give me and run off to explore the room!

So even if you do online check-in you can still change your room when you arrive if you want?

You can, but there's no benefit to doing online check-in if you do, since all of the paperwork and key would have to be re-done. That's really the only sure time savings, having that stuff prepared ahead of time.

Gotcha. Thanks :thumbsup2

The reason I do online check in is because I don't need any additional information. I don't need the park hours, I don't need tickets, I don't need to know what's available at the resort. All I want is my room number and my key. That's it. That's what online check in should be used for.

I did a grand gathering at Pop Century in January and did NOT use online check in because I had a specific room request for my father and wanted to make sure he got that. I also wanted to make sure all four rooms were together. I waited in line for almost a half hour and it took the Cast Member about ten minutes to get everything done for the four rooms. There is no way in heck I'd make online check-ins wait since all they should need are their keys.

This weekend, I did online check in because I don't care what room I get. That's the purpose of online check in. Should be able to walk up to the desk, hand over your photo ID, get your packet and be off.
