Are there any tricks to using the system to make it go faster? I know you log in to the main Disney site, go to dining reservations, tie it to you confirmation number. Then is it just search and hope for the best?

That's the gist of it. There are a few tricks (like using browser tabs to not have to refilter the main list every time), but that's the general process.
