If I am a new member buying 160 pts, can I split the contract into 2 80 pt contracts or does my initial contract have to be the for the 160?

Thanks!

The initial contract has to be 160, the set minimum, I believe. After that you can add on in smaller quantities.

AFAIK your master contract always has to be your minimum purchase size or greater, and any additional contracts (made at the same time or as a later add-on) need to be 25+ points. That said, sometimes there are promos for certain resorts (esp. AKV) allowing you to buy a minimum of only 100 points directly from Disney, so in that case you could do 160 total as 100 + 60 in two contracts.

Of course, there is always the option of resale purchases as well, in which case you are only limited to what's on the market...

I was allowed to split my first purchase of 200 pts. at BLT into 2 - 100 pt contracts. I think I read somewhere that one (the first) contract has to be at least 100 pts and the second can then be 60 pts., but the total purchase has to be equal to or greater than the minimum purchase for the resort.

When I did this my guide told me that it wasn't possible initially, but I knew better from reading DIS. So I pressed her on it and she said she would ask "MGMT". When I continued to ask, it was allowed. I know a few others on DIS have reported this same scenario. So, I wouldn't take no for an answer, if that's what you want to do. It seems when it becomes a deal breaker for making the purchase, DVC allows it.

It never hurts to ask you guide if you can split the 160 points and how small of contracts can you go. The prior posters have experience in the past on what Disney required when they bought, but you might get lucky so I would ask your guide.

I and many others here were able to get the contract broken into smaller amounts. Talk to your guide. If he/she says no; ask to speak to supervisor. It absolutely can be done. There have been MANY of us over the past 6 months that were able to do this. With that said, at least one of the contracts had to be at least 100 points.

For example, I purchased 200 points last year split between BLT (125) and AKV (75).

My contract was broken down as follows:
BLT-100
BLT-25
AKV-25, 25, 25

Hope it all works out for you!
