On average, are most 6-year olds 40 inches or taller??

So now we will have a 6-year old in our group, but I have not met her yet to measure her (what a great first impression, huh? :lmao:) I am wondering how to plan for touring with a 6-year old and wonder if, ON AVERAGE, most 6-year olds are tall enough to ride thrill rides that require them to be 40 inches or taller. Now I know there are always exceptions, but I'm curious to see if I'm on target or not.

Thanks! IVY :flower3:

My DS has always been small for his age and was tall enough to ride 40" rides when we visited for his 4th birthday. At 6 she should be over 40".

Just to add DS has grown a lot this year and looks fairly average amongst his classmates and is now tall enough for the 48" rides so don't rule them out! He's really looking forward to RNRC!

Ryan is 5 1/2 yrs old and he is about 45 inches tall. This is interesting...coz we are heading to Disney next week!

I would think so. My 4 1/2 year old is 42 inches and my 7 year old is 51 inches. Funny you should ask, because I just measured them for our upcoming trip!

My dd was exactly 40 inches tall when she was 4 and 1/2 on our last trip. Our ds is 3 and 1/2 right now and 39 inches. We are hoping he will grow that extra inch by December.

My 6yo son is 46 1/2 inches and he always measures right around the 50th percentile for heighth. She should be fine for the 40" rides and most likely will be tall enough for the 44" rides. I think the only question will be whether she might be tall enough for the 48" rides and does she like thrill rides or only tame stuff? My 6yo does not do roller coasters, ToT, etc. He is very timid on rides. However, my 8yo has always been a thrill seeker... no roller coaster or other thrill ride has ever scared him away. So it's important to find out not only her height, but also her "ride personality" to properly plan. Have fun!

Our DD7 is 53" tall. Now, she is tall for her age, but at 6 she was 48" tall. Again, she is on the taller side for age, but not THAT much taller than most of her classmates. My guess is you'll be fine, but why not call that 6 year old childs parent and find out how tall s/he is? Just a thought....

Have fun on your trip!

Mu DD was 40" at 4yo. She's 5 now and should be at 45"

My DS is slightly under 2, and he's already past 35". At 1.5yo he was a full 2" taller than sissy was. So I'm revising my estimates for him that by 3-3.5 at the latest, he can ride BTM..

My DS6 and his friend were just there. They could ride all the 44" rides but weren't quite 48"

Unless she's really tiny, I'd say she'll be 40 inches tall. Our DD will be 5 yrs. old in less than two weeks when we go to WDW, & she's 44+ inches tall. She's always been in the 90+ percentile on the growth charts though. The only things she won't be able to ride are RnR & Primeval Whirl. She'll have to ride with one of us to do Tomorrowland Speedway as well.

Yes, they will definitely be 40" unless extremely petite. My DD is 6 and she is 45" and average height for a 6 year old. She was able to go on all of the 40" rides when she was 4. You should be safe planning for those rides!

I have a very tiny son -- 3rd percentile. He is 4 1/2 years old and 39 inches in his shoes. If this 6 year old is not 40inches, she would be remarkably petite and I think you would have heard about it.

You should plan on the 40inch rides and most likely the 44 inch rides too.

My 4 yr old niece is 43" tall. I hope she grows another inch or more so that she can ride the 44" high rides.

Her 6 yr old sister is at least 46" tall-I haven't measured her in a while.

I'm sure the 6yr old will be at least 40"

My little guy has always been short and skinny (3rd percentile on both until just recently). He was easily over 40 inches for our last trip. He was 5 1/2 at the time. So, I think you're safe to assume she'd be tall enough at 6 to be at least 40 inches!

The issue might not be are they tall enough, but do they want to ride??? Has this child done thrill rides before? My DS has been riding them since he was almost 5 (and now at almost 7, is 48 inches) and loves them. But my neighbor's DD, who is 6 and also 48 inches wants NOTHING to do with thrill rides.

If they have never ridden, I highly recommend having them ride the barnstormer first since it is a short ride, yet with some pep, to get an idea on how they feel about roller coasters in general. I don't think I would try out Space Mountain or EE for the first one :rotfl:

Our just 4-year old was just over 40" when we were at DW in April. When we took out older DD in 2001 when she was 6-years old, she had no limitations on what rides she could go on (RR coaster, Space Mountain, etc.) so you should be fine for your trip w/ a 6-year old.
