on an insect sting how can u tell if the stinger is still in the area??

My dh was cutting the grass today and ran across some hornets or yellow jackets(from a hole in the ground) he was stung 8 or 9 times. There is a little tint black dot in the center of wheree he was stung but it is not sticking out. Could these be the stingers?? he took some benedryl and the areas are swollen and tight. Any ideas?

I think yellow jackets don't lose their stingers.

Sounds like the stinger is still in. Get a needle and dig into the skin to take out the black item. If you have aloe vera, then put it onto the swollen area.

If there is even the slightest piece of stinger above the skin, you can put a piece of tape over the bite, and then pull. Unsophisticated but it works with minimal discomfort. Good luck!
