There is no pirate night on a marvel at sea cruise. Marvel night will be the day at sea, and I assume your 4 night cruise only has 1 day at sea.
I just reread your full post actions it is only one port- progresso. The cruise is out of Galveston. There is no pirate night on a marvel at sea cruise. Marvel night will be the day at sea, and I assume your 4 night cruise only has 1 day at sea.
I do know based on history the 4 night voyages do not have pirate night, but the MDAS event in its place.I just reread your full post actions it is only one port- progresso. The cruise is out of Galveston.
Yep, however it looks like there is no pirate makeover on the 5 night sailing from Galveston so I am wondering if that changed. With the 1st 5 night coming soon, time will tell.Normally MDAS sailings had both and were 5 nights. When they started offering them as 4 night sailing you no longer get pirate night sadly.
Yes, I believe they are not offering pirate night on any of the Marvel day at sea sailing this year when they added in 4 nights ones (Instead of having it on some MDAS and not others). Honestly, I am disappointed in DCL for choosing to do this. They have had two fireworks shows on some of the 25th anniversary 4 night sailings so clearly it's something that can be done but it seems like they wanted to save the money.Yep, however it looks like there is no pirate makeover on the 5 night sailing from Galveston so I am wondering if that changed. I can completely understand that "sinking" feeling when you realize a vacation may not land quite the way you expected. It sounds like a bit of a culture shock for your family, especially since the Pirate Night flash mob is such a huge highlight! I can say these cruises are not a deal or discounted because they are MDAS but it’s definitely a bummer to feel like you’re paying for a "Marvel" experience when your teens have moved on from it or never caught the bug in the first place. So my kids are really disappointed with me for scheduling a marvel cruise because they love to participate in the flash mob on pirate night! It never occur to me that marvel = no pirates. I just thought there would be a day when Spider-Man and the other characters would be walking around. I didn’t realize it was such a large part of the cruise. It doesn’t help that my kids both don’t even like marvel. Both male teens. So I’m not sure who marvel is for. We have another older son at school right now who used to LOVE marvel but that was about 4 years ago. Now he is adamantly against it, hates where Disney took it and refuses to watch any new marvel stuff. It’s like he feels betrayed by Disney. I doubt I could get him to step foot on any marvel cruise.. I’ve only watched a couple of the movies, early stuff like captain America and guardians (is that marvel?). I thought those were decent, worth watching, but didn’t blow me away. I watced wanda vision, which I thought was interesting. But everytime I’ve tried to watch any of the other new marvel Disney+ stuff, the writing is pretty awful. I can’t get through one episode. So we will definitely be more conscious of avoiding marvel. Ugh. Now I see why we got a “deal” on that cruise.
this is such a lovely post. Thanks for writing it. As I was reading it, I was thinking I will get the 2 going on the cruise to watch more of the marvel movies before we sail in about 2 weeks.I can completely understand that "sinking" feeling when you realize a vacation may not land quite the way you expected. While it’s not clicking for your family right now, the "Marvel at Sea" events are usually huge hits for a specific crowd. There are many fans who:
Love the deep comic book lore and enjoy seeing those niche characters come to life.
Appreciate the "Infinity Saga" arc, finding the overall 10-year story to be an impressive feat of filmmaking, even if the recent movies haven't quite lived up to that same standard.
Enjoy the "Guardians of the Galaxy" vibe (and yes, that is Marvel!), which tends to be a bit more irreverent and fun.
I hope you can make the best of it
The good news is that even on a themed cruise, you aren't "locked in" to the Marvel activities. If the writing and the characters aren't for you, you can certainly choose not to participate in the Marvel Day at Sea events. Most of the ship's standard amenities—the pools, the incredible dining, the teen clubs (Vibe), and the adult-only areas—remain available. Sometimes, the "Marvel" crowds are so busy meeting characters that the rest of the ship actually feels a bit quieter and more relaxing for everyone else!
At the end of the day, you're still on a Disney ship with your boys. Even without the eye patches and pirate chants, there is plenty of room to make great memories together. Hopefully, once you're out on the water, the "deal" you got feels like a win because of the extra relaxation and family time, rather than a compromise on the theme.
I hope you’re all able to enjoy the time away and have a truly great trip!
