OMG...the cost of water is what?????????????????

I just don't get how you aree using that much water in a month. At $11.00 per thousand gallons, that would be 63,000 gallons, about 2,000 gallons a day! My family of three uses less than one tenth that. Even if it is a quarterly bill, that still seems like and awful lot of water usage.

I agree. That is a heck of a lot of water for 2 people. You must have a leak or you take crazy long showers!! Like, HOURS long!!

Our water bill, and that is just water, sewer is separate, runs about 28.00 per month and that is for about 3000 gallons a month.

Our sewer bill is $59.25 for 3 months.

OP, are you sure you don't have a leak somewhere?

Our family of 4 averages about 100 gallons a day (with showers, laundry, dishwasher, etc).

No advice just that I feel your pain OP. Our quarterly bill is usually over the $400 dollar mark and I hear water prices will be going up again soon. It really sucks. Sorry your city charges so much

We pay under $70 a month for water bill which includes sewer service, trash pickup and a few minor charges for environmental fees, etc.

Family of 3 with no pool and desert landscaping so no large grass yard to irrigate but we do run water for some outdoor plants and, of course, dishwasher, clothes washer, showers (not always daily!) and other sink useage. Typical monthly usage averages about 7,000 gallons. My husband is a BIG proponent of quick showers so that's the norm around here which is good 'cause long showers are a huge water waste as leaking toilets and faucets can be.

The amount of water used by the original poster sounds quite high unless the daily showers are 20 minutes long each LOL . Whatever the actual cost is, at the very least it sounds like she should compare water usage amounts with a neighbor and also ask the water company or a plumber to review her water usage to see if they think it's in line with a regimine (sp?) of daily showers for 2 and dishwasher.

OP, you said that they raised the rates recently, right? I am wondering if it is a retroactive bill for months to years back. Sometimes they can get away with doing that. That or you have to have a leak somewhere, like others were saying. Is it possible that somebody tapped off of your water line and are using it?

I would agree.

The month I filled a swimming pool in Florida--15,000 gallons...even in today's FL rates would not cost that much.

There has got to be an error somewhere. FL water may be more expensive than other areas--but it isn't THAT expensive ($700)

Last summer--with a family of 5 and daily cloth diaper washing (each load washed twice--old washer)....we still paid less than $100 per month and that included filling the pool when levels were low.

I once had a leak and it was on the city side. They fixed it for free.

I live in western Pa. Our water bills are approximately $40/month, and the sewer is approximately $20/month. There are 3 of us in the household. We run the dishwasher once, maybe twice a day. Probably 10 loads of laundry a week, and daily showers. We're all out of the house most of the day.

Your usage is more than 10 times more each month than ours is.

You use over 2,000 gallons daily. Using over 100 gallons daily would be a LOT of water. 2,000 gallons daily for 2 people is an INSANE amount of water.

Something isn't right.

Just got my water bill and am just sick about it. It's over $700. I called and asked why it was so much and was told, in a rather what's the big deal kind of way, that effective April of this year the rates we raised 24%. :scared1: and it's right on par with my water usage this time last year. WTH, thanks for your concern dude. So, I looked over the bill and it's $11.90 per unit. Not sure what a unit is, maybe 100 gallons. I'll call tomorrow and get that info.

Can anyone take a peek at their bill and let me know what the per unit or gallon rate is where you live. I think this is a grossly high per unit cost. Also, how many units/gallons do you use in your house. There is just the two of us here, so two showers per day, run the dishwasher when full and misc. using of the sink. We are still using way too much water I think.

Just wondering what the going rate is where you live, and about how much water you use per month. I think DH is a real water waster. This is just another reason, in the long line of reasons, why I want to unload this house. My utilities per month are nearly as much as the mortgage payment.:headache:

Holy cow!!! :scared1: I thought our water bill was insane! I live in Arizona, right outside of Phoenix and for a family of 3, and a yard with no grass but a drip system to water the plants twice a day - we pay about $70 a month. I don't know about per unit costs because I can't find a bill right now. But I know that we have a pretty corrupt water company and our rates are really high compared to other cities in our area. So high that the Arizona Corporation Commission stepped in last year and made them lower their rates for us. My mom lives in Kalamazoo Michigan and gets a bill for about $35... every 3 months. She's got a lawn and lots of flowers to water, but it's just her and my sister there. But my sister is a huge water waster too... $700?! I would die if I opened a bill and it was that high!

I'm afraid there is no leak...we are guilty as charged of wasting water. The rates were just raised 24%. How is a hike that much even legal.:confused3 So, I guess we can say about $175 of this bill is just the new price increase. (when compared to before)

I know the sprinkler ran, but OMG. We had zero rain and nearly 100 degrees everyday. Here's the kicker too...we didn't even run our washing machine the entire time, it was getting repaired and we were using the next door neighbors...so it was their water. :headache: My neighbor had to fill her pool and her bill was nearly $2000, so I guess I'm happy I don't have to pay that bill.

Not sure--but if it is what it costs, it is what it is.:confused3

Our sprinkler in our former home/now rental is on well water. I wonder if for that cost--are you close enough to the water table to have a well dug for the sprinkler?

My favorite bill to make me go "huh?" was when we had no power in a month for 2 weeks due to a hurricane. But the power bill was higher than the previous month. :confused3 I never figured it out--but maybe we missed the lack of electricity that we made up for it.

Pool fills--FYI--usually you can get the sewer fee removed since you keep the water.

Did the OP ever say for sure that this is for a month? That's a really crazy bill if it is.

Our water and sewer is $100-$120 a month, which has alays seemed really higt tome.
