So, I know that I said in my PJ that I was going to make a donation to Make-A-Wish, as my favor. BUT!!! I've read about several people who have been able to get the lenox Mickey and Minnie ear ornamants deeply discounted!

Well, I kinda shoved way to the back of my mind and didn't think it would be possible. BUT! My MOH just called the Lenox outlet at Birch Run here in MI. They have 37 mickeys and 38 minnies and they will hold them for 48 hours and they're discounted down to $6.99!!!

I'm so excited. We're going to go pick them up tomorrow night (it's an hour and 45 min. drive one way)

So, now, I'm not ordering them already personalized. So I'm wondering if there is anyway to personalize them. I would like them to act as our favors and our place cards for dinner!!

painty pens?? what do you guys think??
I'm going to have to ask my crafty friends......

EEEEEEKKKKKK!!!!!

Oh how exciting, I have written on Lenox stuff with gold pens and turned out fine!

Those are the ornaments I purchased at the Lenox Warehouse in Cranbury NJ. I really love them. I originally got them for 4.99 each and I had a coupon for 10% off. I kept going back to the warehouse and after Christmas last year I think they were down to 1.99. Mine came without boxes so that is why they had them so discounted. I am going to order favor boxes from the internet and have our names and wedding dates put on them.

Ours are also not personalized and I am not sure how to go about doing it. I have one ornament that has a small chip on it so I am planning on using that one as a test. I will probably bring it to Michaels and try out all the different types of pens.

I was thinking of using these in place of Name Cards and putting the peoples names on the front and the table number on the back. I could actually use a few more Minnies so I might have to check the Lenox Outlet (different then the Warehouse) near me and see if they have any left.

Let us know what you are doing.

Linda

Awww, wish we had these in the UK. I was looking for something like that for our tree - they are brilliant!

I love those and plan on using them too. I watch for them everywhere I think they might show up.... Congrats!

wendy i got those for caryn and mark for xmas a while back (maybe 2 years ago). They loved them and they are sooooooo cute! I got them for $24 each and had them personalized. A very good choice for a favor!!!! :thumbsup2

okay, I'm panicking...

I have the ears, I have pens. Like 5 of them! But the only ones that say they write on ceramic, etc.. are the actual painty pens and the gold doesn't look gold, it looks like mud.

So now I'm thinking that maybe I should go with black??

Idk!!
Eeeek!

:scared:

Oh, I was thinking about you last night and wondering if you had tried any of the pens. I have one of those ears that has a small chip on it so I have been using that one as a sample to try on. The gold pen I have it too thick and I do not like it. I tried a black sharpie and it writes great and does not rub off but I don't really like the look of it. I am going to try to get a very fine black paint pen and hopefully that will work. Please let me know how yours turns out. I am having between 50 and 60 people at our wedding so I need to find something that works.

Thanks,
Linda

What type of gold pen specifically? Do you remember?? I've bought a gazillion different gold pens but the only one that says it works on ceramic and the like is the "painty" pen brand and the gold color looks like mud!!

I might go with black, the more I think about it. Sharpie does have very fine tipped pens to, so maybe that would work!! I was just in Joanns last night and almost bought a black one as back up. Thanks for responding so quickly Linda!!

Oh I dont remember which brand exactly I used a fat one for writing on a ceramic piggy bank. I have a Zig brand here. I do remember it looked watery at first but once I practiced a bit it turned a deeper gold. I'm sure black would go too! And the paint pens have chipped on other things before, the other poster suggesstion of a Sharpie may be better. Good luck let us know!

Do you have one you can test on? I'm thinking that if a black sharpie worked for someone, maybe you could try a gold sharpie since you are looking for gold. I have a silver sharpie that I love and use it on lots of crafts.

Good luck! And great idea for favors & great find on the deal! I also bought those for my sister and her husband a couple years ago for about $30 personalized!!

I didn't even know they made gold sharpies and then after I read this I went on Staples website and found them. They run about 3.50 each. I will have to try it.

Linda

Wendy and Linda,

I think the gold sharpie might work and IF you have time you could double line it in the black fine point to add dimension to it. Wendy, I know you are short on time, but it might work if you have an extra one to work with. I wish I had such an outlet around here! We have nothing like that anywhere near me that I know of. I think the ears make a FANTASIC favor.

Morning Wendy,
Any word on how the writing on the ornaments went?

Linda

Linda,

They turned out really well. I'll took sample pics of one (i'll TRY to upload and post later/soon.) The friend of a friend who did them practiced on a cheapo plate I bought forever. The I guess she told my friend to pack 'em up, she wasn't going to do them. She ended up doing them, but she was really nervous. I think they turned out really well. Because they are so small and curved and there is nowhere to rest your pinkie or hand, they're pretty hard to do. She had a little trouble on doing our names on the back and they slope a little, but I don't think they look bad at all. I'll get the pics up when I can!

Oh - thanks so much for answering and I am really looking forward to seeing a picture. We are debaiting between putting our names on the back or I might purchase the ribbon that you can get imprinted with names and wedding date and use that as the hanger.

We were thinking of putting the table numbers on the back.

Thanks again,
Linda

Oh, I think using the ribbon w/ your names and date is brilliant. I don't know if you'd want to put the table numbers on the back though? Then their ornament will forever say 3 on the back!!!

Okay, here's some pictures. I wanted to get close enough to see, but the flash created some issues.

The writing on the back is a little slanted, but see above for the small/curving/nowhere to rest pinkie or hand issue.

I think they turned out great. She messed up on one, but I had extras, so she was able to redo it.

We shortened the date on the back b/c we didn't want it to stretch to the sides and for you to be able to see it from the front.

HTH! If you have any questions, let me know!

In the pictures it looks like the name on the front slants too, but it doesn't. I think I was just holding the camera cockeyed.

I just love the way they came out. I am planning on heading to Michaels at lunch to see if I can find those pens. Now I don't know if I want to get the ribbon with our names and dates on it or to write on the back.

I know what you mean about putting the number on the back of the ornament. Years from now, people will look at it and wonder what it means.

Thanks so much for the photos.

Linda
