I'm so excited I'm shaking!

I have a good friend who used to work at DL and whose dad was a famous DL entertainer. My friend has the greatest stories to tell! They had their own apartment in DL and he used to be able to play in the park when no one else was there! He basically grew up in DL. His dad's name is on a window on Main St., which is a big honor.

Well, yesterday I had lunch with him and he surprised me with this AWESOME book about his dad. It just came out and it's signed! He also gave me several other original memorabilia items from the early 60s signed by his dad.

When he found out I'm going to DL next week, he asked IF I WANTED TO STAY WITH HIM AND HIS PARENTS IN THEIR HOME!!!!!!! They are quite elderly now so he lives with them 2-3 weeks/month to help out and comes back up here the rest of the time. He said he'd show me all kinds of great stuff from the park that his family has in the home. They have items that were taken out of rides during refurbs and tons and tons of great things. And get this--I GET MY OWN FLOOR! Not just a room! Can you believe it?!

woah how cool is that???? congrats...your very lucky!! make sure you take pics and give us a full review please....

I just talked to my friend and he said it was fine if I used their names, so now I can tell you who it is! My friend is Laurence. Laurence is a few years younger than Steve Martin, and when Steve worked in the magic shop, Laurence got him to teach him all the tricks. When Steve moved up, Laurence got his job in the Magic Shop :goodvibes. He later was Goofy (got fired from that one) and spent his college years piloting the Mark Twain. I learned a lot of neat stuff about my friend--that he never even told me!--because I stayed up late last night reading the new book he gave me!

His Dad's name is Wally Boag. If you're older, you might remember him as Pecos Bill/The Traveling Salesman. He was the star of the Golden Horseshoe for 27 years, was Fred MacMurray's stuntman in the Flubber movies, and wrote the Tiki Room script. He's also the Tiki Room spokesparrot--I think his name is Jose.

Wow, that is just so cool! How exciting for you! :cool1: Something like that would be a dream come true for my older sister, who went to Disneyland for the first time in 1964 (I think) as a 2 1/2 year old. It's amazing what she remembers from that first visit. She loves anything and everything Disney from the '60s era. Can't wait for the full report! :thumbsup2

By the way, are you able to say what the book is? Sounds like a really fun read!

I'm so Glad You decided to go!
You made the right choice!

The title is in the picture above..."Wally Boag, Clown Prince of Disneyland." Here is some information about it, which I hope is ok to post here. I'll just link to the bio page so if anyone wants to read a little about him they can do that here http://www.wallyboag.com/wally.html

Oh that is so cool!!! I know you'll have a great time!

This is very exciting for you. Amazing actually, I hope that you will be able to take pictures and will post a report after returning home, what an amazing experience you will have, that will be so awesome to see the stuff from the parks, etc. :goodvibes

WOW! Wally Boag! What an amazing chance for you to meet a true Disney historian/celebrity! He's the real deal! Can't wait to hear all about your visit with this family.

Holy cow!!!! How exciting for you! So I guess you won't be staying at the HoJos afterall?

Man, I'm torn! I'm not sure what to do!! We have reservations (dd and I) for the ToT Party on Thursday night, then the late show of Fantasmic! on Fri night. That makes it very difficult to stay at their house (it's in Santa Monica). I'm also so grateful to Hojo for giving me the $59 rate for both Th and Fri even though Fri was sold out. I guess we'll either just go to Santa Monica for the day on Sat. and figure out how to get there and then to the airport, or maybe we could drive down instead of fly. We'd have to leave Wed. night instead of flying down Thurs. morning. I really hate that drive but at least I'd have a way to get to their house and have the opportunity to stay a night. His parents are 89 and 91, so I may not get this opportunity again, but who knows? It might mean I have to go back soon ;)

I plan to take lots of pictures so I'll be sure and share them with my DIS friends!!
