I'm not sure how far out your trip is, but keep an eye on it to make sure they don't make drastic changes. The good thing is if they do (I *THINK* it's one hour difference in arrival or departure time), you can call and have them change you to any flight that day for no charge. We've done it often when travelling with family, book months (think 6+) out on the "cheaper" time, Delta makes a "significant" change, so I have them move us to a better flight (that was MUCH more expensive).

And by "keeping an eye out", I just mean checking every week or two. They will try to notify you, but don't count on it.

It's in about 3 weeks. They did modify my return flight, and it works out better for me! And you are correct, they did NOT notify me, I just happened to look at my flight times. The price is still the same as when I booked it.

I gave up on airline brand loyalty awhile ago. I use Kayak or Google Flights to find the cheapest and I go with that. I'm also not opposed to driving to a different airport for a better price. I'm right near Boston (20 mins from the airport) but Manchester (45 minutes), Providence (~1 hour), and Hartford (~2 hours) are usually also on the table. All three of those airports are easier to get in and out of and cheaper to park at than Boston's Logan. (I did drive about 4 hours to JFK for a cheaper flight one time, but that was absolute chaos and not worth it!)

Same, I am 10 minutes from Logan with no traffic (hardly ever!). I often fly with family on the Cape, so we fly our of PVD whenever possible when it's all of us. But I'm not as open to driving to other locations (I won't even drive the 90 minutes to PVD from my house) as it takes longer and it's generally not worth it to me, even if it's $100 less. Fares, for me, are usually compatible wherever I fly out of, it's the times that sometimes work better out of smaller airports. But again, I'd rather Uber to Logan than drive to PVD from my house. I have zero loyalty to any airline, I will NOT fly Frontier or Spirit, even for free.

I just booked my next flight on Delta. They might have a new customer! It's been a long time since I've flown on Delta, it is usually either JetBlue or SW for me. Delta had better prices and flight times, so I'm on board (literally and figuratively).

We fly exclusively on Delta. They haven’t let me down yet! Easy to make schedule changes/cancellations. Most of the staff I’ve encountered has been top notch. Hope you enjoy your experience!

I fly about ten times a year, and I've given up on airline loyalty. The perks aren't worth how much you need to spend to get them. I'm back to best prices and times for my route.

I agree with you that it isn't worth it nowadays for most people. The problem I face in DFW is that American is not just hubbed here but it is a "super hub" or "fortress hub." American is so dominant that other viable options are limited.

Other airlines fly to key destinations or their hubs, but the flight times and schedule leave much to be desired. I can fly to most major markets with between 8-12 nonstop options per day. This is particularly convenient when on business so I can make same day flight changes easily when my schedule changes.

I'm in a similar situation with Detroit and Delta. I do end up flying with them more often because of all the nonstop options, but I sometimes get great deals on American or Southwest with one connection, and that's worth the extra time and hassle.

Check Allegiant flights into Sanford. They are a discount carrier but I like them a lot more than Frontier. Their newest planes are decent for shorter flights. I also prefer the smaller nature of the Sanford airport over the chaos of MCO.

I totally get it. But when you are buying 4 plane tickets, saving $100 turns into saving $400! I have never flown Frontier or Spirit but I can't say I would rule out a free flight!
