OMG BEER & WINE at Crystal Palace!!!!

guys, I almost starting crying. I’m at The Crystal Palace, my server comes over and asks if I’d like anything from the bar.
BAR?? WHAT BAR? (My mind is thinking, is this some cruel joke?)
He says, oh yes- wine and beer. We just started this Monday.

I’m with you—this is great news.

I haven’t been able to convince my husband to eat at Crystal Palace since 2000 because it’s dry.

If and when I can get him back to WDW, I want to surprise him with a dinner there.

I think it's great, but you should read the comments on the Disney Food Blog. According to many posters, people will now be spilling red wine on the characters and roaming the park in a drunken stupor. And if you want to have an adult beverage with your meal, you're not a true adult and/or you are an alcoholic who needs to drink to get through the meal.

I don't mean to dampen enthusiasm but are we sure booze is offered at breakfast? If it is, I'm in! But I thought I saw somewhere that it is dinner only.

I just assumed since Mimosas are generally only served at breakfast.

And if you want to have an adult beverage with your meal, you're not a true adult and/or you are an alcoholic who needs to drink to get through the meal.

I don't think any of that but I'm the type that prefers to keep the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park as Walt envisioned. It wasn't from fear of drunks roaming around!

Still, progress is progress and I’m sure Walt didn’t envision a lot of how the park has changed, from fast passes to getting rid of beloved rides and attractions. (Waaaaa to The Great Movie ride and 20k Leagues and many many more may they Rest In Peace).

That being said, it is wonderful to enjoy a glass of wine at the end of a long wonderful day at MK. I am beyond thrilled!!

Now if they would only change that awful Stitch disaster into a lounge/bar I might just go to the park for that!! Ha

I brought up the comments on food blog because those are the types of responses that seem to pop up in every discussion about alcohol at the MK. Not because I want to add my thoughts on the morality of drinking. If you're able to keep those types of posts from this thread, good on you! That would be as refreshing as a cold beer on a hot day at the MK.

Now that the dining plans include an adult beverage, they kind of HAD to add it, don't you think? Especially as BOG serves wine. How else would you get the full value of the plan?

1) I am sorry, but I am just too old fashioned for what WDW is becoming (in certain respects).
2) I do not like the idea of booze in Magic Kingdom.
3) Sure, WDW and Ogre (Iger) want more profits, and booze has a HUGE markup.
. . . they need more profit from dining
. . . dining revenues and profits are way-way-way down
. . . repeat, way-way-way-way down
. . . sure, overall profit is up at WDW, but attendance is down and going further down
. . . so, the way to increase profits and keep high bonuses and stock options is to offer alcohol
. . . dining is so low, that Cast Members get 40% (or more) discount at most eateries, even Signatures
. . . this change happened last year, when revenues and profits stated to sag greatly
. . . cast members always got coupons for discount dining, but only three per year for more than the standard 20% discount
4) But, I wish there was a place you could take kids where the parents didn't have to get alcohol to enjoy themselves.
5) Must live with it, but I still wish it did not happen.

NOTE: I am not trying to be overly "moral", since there are so many other places at WDW for drinking.

It seems kind of moralistic to say parents have to get alcohol to enjoy themselves, though. Maybe it's just a nice vacation bonus to be able to sip a glass of wine or beer with their meal. If they're handling it responsibly, I don't think they should be judged for it. But then, my parents enjoyed a vacation cocktail before or with a meal quite responsibly when I was a child, and they're in their 80s now. And I'm also a responsible drinker when I choose to have an adult beverage, so YMMV, sadly.

As I mentioned on another thread, someone almost always drops this statement on threads about alcohol in any setting at the MK. It's so unnecessarily judgemental about people who choose to responsibly enjoy a glass of wine or beer with a table service meal. I understand that some people don't like the idea because they believe Walt Disney wouldn't approve, but the folks who attack the morals of those who drink at all are a totally different issue imho.
