I have to WWoHP twice so far, but we have never been to the Ollivander's wand shop show (line always was way too long ). Question is for those who have done it : Does the kid chosen for the show get to keep the wand that "chose them" or do they have to buy it ?
What if the family really has not allowed in their trip budget the expense for such an expensive piece of resin/plastic ? I can envision the kid standing, crying as the wand from the show is taken back off them because the family cant pay the expense for it.
Im sure some will say that if they can afford to go there, they should be able to buy the kid a wand, as that is what I think too.
just wondering ;)

LMBO!!! so is there a time when you can just walk around Ollivander's or do you have to watch the show to get in? I never even thought about that until now.

We went ollivander's numerous times just for the chance to be "chosen" we were planning on buying wands anyway. After the 6th time our kids were not picked we gave in and they got wands. The next day they were chosen and we got those wands too. I can't imagine going to the shop without the intention of buying a wand if you are chosen. You don't have to do the show we went in the store plenty of times just to browse.

The "show" (Ollivander's) and the "store" (the Owl Post) are not the same place. You cannot stay in the show room, the best you can do is walk slowly while you are ushered out. You cannot buy a wand in there either--that is done in the store in the next room. You can access Owl Post through Dervish & Banges as well, but sometimes there is a short wait for that also.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know! We have seen the show on you tube so will probably skip it.

Understandable. My rule of thumb is that it's worth maybe a 30-45 minute wait if you've never seen it. I'd give it a shot for sure if the wait's less than that.

The only time we were there, my daughter was chosen. Of course we had to buy the wand for her...and had to get my other daughter a wand too to make it fair. Even though we said we weren't buying wands at the start!!! They are pretty cool though! :cool1:

I have also watched some YouTube videos of the wand ceremony and I just don't think we will wait for that. Unless it's just a walk up and no waiting we might go through but I don't think the kids want wands.

How much do the wands run? Online they have them for $29.95, is that the typical price or are there cheaper wands available too? I KNOW DD9 (and probably DH) will want one.

I believe that is the price and with tax, it bumps up to a little over $30. But if you are a AAA member, show your card to get a discount!

Honestly, I would hope that a child old enough to be chosen is going to be old enough to not cry if the family can't/won't buy the wand.

Now with me I was up against my husband, who suddenly decided that HE needed the wand after my son was chosen....my son knew that he'd already gotten his wand and we were not buying another for him, but hubby snagged it.
