OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

Had I known you were in the neighborhood, I could have gone looking for you on my lunch break.

Me too! The Freedom Trail literally goes right in front of my house. I was probably walking my dog at the BH Monument right next to you. It was full of school groups.

Hello fellow BC/YC dis'ers,
We're 19 days out to our stay at BC. Arriving on my DS 13th birthday and plan on spending a lot of time at SAB :thumbsup2

I originally booked using the summer special but then in my files I found a postcard I had put aside, never thinking we'd be taking this vacation AND staying on property (we own timeshare off site). Would it be worth it to call and ask if there would be a savings with the post card PIN?

Also, since we don't usually stay on site I'm not up to speed with the EMH. Do they still issue wristbands or do you have to show your key card at each ride? If so, should I plan on packing lanyards (I have DCL ones) for ease?

TIA

yes -- CALL... The worst they can say is no savings.. The best is a lots of savings... You never know if you do not try :thumbsup2

They said there were no more rooms at the postcard/PIN rates :sad1: Oh well, I tried. Even checked for CL but it was $140 more per day, didn't make sense to upgrade.

Any thoughts on needing lanyards for room card to show at EMH?

My Target finds today: Banana Boat spray sunscreen in a 3 oz size, perfect for the backpack on park days and a flat credit card/money holder which is like a laminated fabric. Also had bathing suits marked down so DD got 2 new ones for less than the price of 1 :thumbsup2

Nice finds :thumbsup2 I bought a Slushie Magic at Target today because DS has been whining on about wanting one for months... (I, of course, instantly thought of making my own Grey Goose Slushies with it ;))

I keep the KTTW cards in my front pocket for the first hour or so of EMH. Once you get to a certain point in the night, when they are sure everyone who is there are resort guests, they stop asking to see them. You need to show 1 key per person, so unless everyone has their own lanyard, you are going to have to keep pulling them all out of there anyway...

I am still trying to decide if I'm going to try one (or more) of those rides that I always avoid...RnR, TOT, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain...I probably won't decide that until we get there. Hubby always rides them, but I never have. He hasn't done EE yet though, so maybe we'll both do that as a "something new".[/QUOTE]

I am not one for the big rides. I can't handle barnstormer in toonland. I always let my boys talk me into it, after all it is a "kiddie" ride. They call it a family tradition. I think they just like to hear me scream. But I have tried all but TOT. The only reason I considered RnR was after my DS and I had Lunch with an Imagineer. He happen to be the one who designed RnR. He talked about how they filled the car with tennis balls and not one fell out. I was amazed and tried it... Now it is a must do for me! I figured if the unstrapped balls didn't fall out neither would I. I am glad I tried them, they are a lot more fun than I ever imagined. Space Mt. EE, are the 2 that once was enough but Big Thunder I have ridden over and over and over I love it!!!

Now that's a very good argument for why I should try RnR. I just might have to go for it. We shall see!

There certainly were a lot of school groups in the city! We didn't make it as far as BH, though.

Well, our much anticipated vacation to Disney World and the Yacht Club ended today. We had a wonderful time and my family had lots of memories that will last a lifetime. This was our first stay at the YC and our second stay at a Disney Resort.

We stayed in a CL lagoon view room for seven nights. We were in room 5221 and it overlooked the section of SAB that is really sandy and shallow for the smaller children. We had a great view of the lagoon and the light house. Our room was very nice and seemed to be in great shape.

Two years ago, my family stayed at the GF in the main building. We enjoyed CL and are now addicted! I have often heard that these two resorts are similiar, so I thought I might compare them.

Location - My husband preferred the location of the YC because of the ability to walk or boat to two parks. He also felt like it was centrally located. My daughters, ages 13 and 8 preferred the location of the GF because they still prefer MK to all of the other parks. I loved the YC location.

Pools -YC definitely had the upper hand on pools. We loved SAB and used it every day.

Restaurants - We all loved Hurricane Hannahs, Beaches and Cream, and Cape May. YC wins again.

Rooms - Well, I really can't fairly compare this because the room we had at GF was a queen deluxe, and the room at YC was a standard queen. Both rooms were very nice. I liked the white bedding at the YC more than the bedspreads at GF.

CM's- The cm's at the YC were wonderful. Absolutely everyone from the IPO CM's to the Bellmen were polite, friendly, and helpful. We felt very pampered. The CM's at the GF were great, too, but we felt like the YC ones were friendlier.

Housekeeping - This is the one category that the GF wins handsdown. We had to ask for shampoo any time that we needed it. It was never refilled. The room was always clean, but some of the details were missed. The GF always made sure that we had more shampoos, lotions, etc., than we could need.

Overall, I think we would choose the YC over the GF in the future. We love them both, but we really feel comfortable at the YC. I highly recommend this resort for families and couples.

Is there a possibility the BC boat to Hollywood Studios could support a wheelchair? My daughter cannot transfer. Thanks for the info in advance to all you BC/YC pros!!!

July 8th and 9th unless they finally make my switch to Saturdays and Sundays ... if they do switch, I'll be there July 7th and 8th.

Darn it. We leave on the 6th, so I guess we won't get to see you. :sad2:

Dang!!!

We had lunch at Christopher Columbus park around noon. Gorgeous day in the city!

Unlike the Disney trip with 140 teens, this was a visit to the city with 160 pre-teens.

Anyone envying my days?

OK Dee you were obviously really bold in a former life:rotfl2:
Think of the pre-teen trip as training for your teen one:yay:

I'm LOVING it here at BC so far! For anyone worried that online checking might prevent any pixie dust in the room department, fear not. We were surprised with a lagoon view, after checking in online last week for our standard room! pixiedust: Getting ready to walk over to DHS for my first SWW... :yoda:

Great review em36. So glad your trip was a blast!

Be sure and accentuate the shampoo/toiletries on any surveys you get. This has been a hit and miss problem at Y&BC recently and letting the resort know your problem should help resolve this.

Wow Em, thanks for the great review. Glad you had a great time!

Everyone, please take a look at the list to make sure you are there and that your info is correct! Please post if you need me to make any changes.

I'll do one more update tomorrow, and then MickeyT will keep track of any new guests next week (you know the drill, Mike, please bold any new visitors)

No problem with the wheelchair on the boat. Either inside or out. Hope you have a great trip.

Thank you so much for that info as we plan our next trip!! Just returned a few weeks ago, and really enjoyed the Poly, but couldn't take the boat anywhere. We all had to sit through very long rides on the bus to go to Hollywood Studios, which is a destination the other kids love!! People would sigh when they saw that a wheelchair had to board.....its natural!! Beach club sounds perfect for walking or boating anywhere. My husband or I stay back and only bring Nicole out in the evenings to the parks anyway(cooler, no sun). Are there cabana rentals at SAB???
Have a terrific trip on the Fantasy!!!

We did the online check-in because our arrival was later in the day. In our case, I think it helped "secure" our room.

Thanks -- I think I'm going to take the plunge and do online check-in! Like you said, 333disneymom, I think it might help "secure" our room/request since we're arriving later in the day. KJay, yay for the upgrade!

Have fun on your trip!

Loving all the live updates! I am so glad we made the BC switch! I have a few questions.
1). We are traveling with two other families. My family booked CL GV. The others are regular GV. Will there be any chance we will be near each other?

2). A Mom from one of the other families has a birthday on our arrival day. Nothing was jumping out at me from Disney florists. Is it possible to order something like chocolate covered strawberries and champagne from room service to be in their room when we arrive?

3). DH is golfing four times. He is bringing his clubs. We are flying southwest. Does anyone know if we would get away with putting DS's clubs/bag inside DHs travel bag? It all fits fine... Just didn't know if SW would care. We don't have a smaller travel bag for DSs clubs.

Unfortunately no cabana rentals at BC/YC - yet.

Dee - have a wonderful, magical time! I guess your pre-teen class trip was a dress rehearsal. Have you practiced the mandatory eye rolling, lip pout for any pre-teen/teen girls you might be chaperoning? I can't wait to hear all about it.

For anyone who has trouble getting the shampoos/toiletries at BC/YC here is what works for us. Be very nice to the turn down service cms. I think lots of people forget to tip them like they do mousekeeping. Put it this way - I haven't bought a bar of soap since our last trip. We are still using mickey soaps!
