Ok so for a suprise for my birthday my Boyfriend got my a trip to WDW!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

We are staying at Old Key West! This is my first time staying there!!:goodvibes :goodvibes we are going May 20th -25th..

I was just looking for any pointers on the resort.. what not to miss.. what too miss... transportation... all the good stuff!!!

Thanks in advance!!!!

I really liked OKW, thought it was a very nice and relaxing resort. We rented a car, so I dont know a thing about the transportation. From what I have read on the boards, OKW have dedicated buses, so you dont stop at any other resorts - so it is probably one of the better places to stay if using Disney Transportation.

It has its own charm (as all the resorts do). You are a quick boat / bus away from Downtown Disney, so you have a lot of dining and evening options.

The resort is pretty spread out. There is a map of the resort here somewhere, but if you want to stay close to the main area (pool, restaurants, store) Bldgs 11,12,13,14,62,16,63,64 I believe are the closest.

We loved Olivia's restaurant. It is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner I think 7:30 - 10 . Very nice staff at the resort, and a very quiet resort!!!

Enjoy

I love this resort....first of all you can park your car in front of your room...Secondly the pool area is real fun, and the gurgling suitcase is right next door. there is also two other pools spread out in the resort, one of which has a snack bar. Taking a nice walk late in the day or early evening is great. The balconies are huge, and fun to hang out on. the activity center is fun for kids and adults. they have pool, shuffleboard, ping-pong etc...Quiet is definetly the key word here. this is the most relaxing DVc resort in my opinion.

OKW is our home resort and we almost always stay there. It is very relaxing and quiet. There is also a path where you can walk to the DD area (via Saratoga Springs, I think(?).

Correct except that there are THREE other pools, not two. Our favorite area is South Point, and specifically buildings 45 and 46. Our least favorite area is Turtle Pond Road. We just got home last night, and the buses were still runing GREAT times at OKW. We seemed to never wait except for once when we just missed the bus back from Epcot in the afternoon. We expected it to take at least 30 minutes before the next one, but it actually came in less than 15. There are 5 bus stops at OKW. They run in this order: Penninsular Road, South Point, Turtle Pond, Miller's Road, and Hospitality House before exiting the resort for the parks. The buses to all parks will usually save you time except to AK. The bus to AK often stops at Blizzard Beach, so it takes a bit longer, and AK is a bit farther too. That is the only park we occationally will drive to.

The only dvc resort we have stayed at is OKW. We get a 2 bedroom, 3kids. We love it there. It is absolutley beautiful. We have never waited more than 15 minutes for a bus. Most times it is between 5 and 10. It is more like its own little community. After a day at the parks it is nice to go back to the quiet. You would never know you are that close to all that chaos. If you want to take a walk around the resort bring a map as the roads are winding and you can get lost. We love it there. Last time we went was in 2005. My kids were 12, 17 & 19 at the time. My inlaws came to, along with DH's 17 year old nephew. Everyone loved it. It really does have the charm of Key West. Passporter rates all the resorts. Everybody either loved it or liked it. No one rated it as dislikeing it or hateing it. I think that says something for the place. Have a magical trip.

wow! I'm getting very excitied to go to this resort!! the only ones i have ever stayed at are Pop Century ( my favorite resort! ) All Stars, and FW.

This is my first time saying at a DVC resort too!Its my BF parents. Anything i should know about the DVC? Perks??

thanks in advance!!!

I've never been there, but my DW is there right now. She's going to give me a full report when she gets home. :)

I think one of the nice things about Old Key West is the resort itself and the rooms. A lot of time when we have stayed there, we just stay in the room and enjoy chilling out, using the jacuzzi (if you're in a one bedroom unit) and sitting on the balcony. I think you'll really enjoy it.

Ask your bf if you are staying in a one bedroom or larger. If so, you'll have in room access to a washer and dryer......this is something to consider when packing. You can think about "packing light" since it's easy to run things through the wash. If you're in a studio you still have access to free washer/dryers near the pools but it's not quite as convenient.

Another thing you might not know, when staying using points/membership, you don't get daily housekeeping unless your hosts pay an additional daily fee. You'll see it's not a big deal....just don't want you to be surprised if your bed isn't made when you get back from the park!

You'll have a blast......and wait til you see the size of the rooms if you're used to Value resorts!

Here are some of my thoughts that I posted once in the past.
OKW is like a spread out neighborhood of vacation townhomes. Each building is 2-3 stories and will include 1 bedroom/studio lock offs, 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom villas that are walk ups or walk ins from the parking are right outside your door. This gives a nice secluded vacation home feel IMO. The villas are the largest in the DVC system, and have huge master baths and very large great rooms and fully appointed kitchens with full sized appliances. There is also a complete laundry room with full size washer and dryer (not stackables). There is a large covered balcony that includes a dining table, 4 chairs and a ceiling fan. The balcony is accessed from both the living room and the master bedroom. The studios are lock offs from the second bedroom in some units, and will have 2 queen beds, a large closet, a huge full bath and a kitchenette/sink area that will include a microwave, fridge, coffe maker and toaster as well as some plastic and paper table ware. There is a small table with two chairs and a large balcony for the studio rooms as well.

There are 3 neighborhood pools on site, and a larger main pool that has a new sand castle slide. Each pool area includes a childs play area and a laundry for those who are staying in the studios (full size villas have their laundry room in the villa).

Bus service is excellent to all the parks, and there are 5 bus stops located throughout the resort.

We just got home from OKW on Saturday and absolutely loved it. We stayed 5 days and really enjoyed what the resort had to offer. We had a studio and yes they are much bigger than the AS resorts you will be amazed. The resort is beautiful. Great landscaping. We stayed in 2316 and was very close to the HH (main pool, olivias etc.). You will have a great time. Enjoy your trip. :goodvibes

Grab a drink at the Gurgling Suitcase (suggest a Turtle Krawl) and hop on the boat to DTD. You can take your drinks on the boat!
Nice relaxing way to go to DTD

Main pool is a blast, very laid-back atmosphere. Rooms are huge, you will have a great time! Enjoy it!!!

We just returned on Thursday from our first stay at OKW. It was beautiful and really very peaceful; it didn't seem crowded at all. We never waited for a table at Olivia's and always caught the bus or ferry with very little wait. We were in building 24 in a studio and for the two of us it was a perfect size. We were told by some DVCers we met that this studio is larger than the other resorts. We were steps from the first bus stop (Peninsular) and just across the road from the Hospital House. I would definitely request that building or the adjacent buildings again. Enjoy your trip - it will be fantastic!

our home resort is boardwalk. we always stay at okw. less hub bub.:rotfl: have fun!!!!

thanks sooo much for all the good tips and reviews of the resort!!! i can't wait to go... keep them coming if you have them!! i can use all the tips and info i can get!!!

Building 23 is one of my favorites to stay in. It is now part of the guaranteed Hospitality House group. So unless you requested on booking probably not available at check in. Enjoy, OKW is the best.
