Can just anyone stay at these resorts? Why aren't they listed under Deluxe on the website. My friend told me these are timeshare resorts and people actually own the rooms.. I think this has to be false.. Why are these resorts excluded on Disney's website when looking for a Deluxe?? Help!!!

Both of the resorts are Disney Vacation Club resorts, so yes the are owned by time share owners(we have 250 points at SSR), but part of the deal that DVC has with Disney is that that rooms can be reserved for cash paying resort guests. There are several DVC owned sections in many resorts. Boardwalk, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House. Then there are separate DVC resorts, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs and Kidani Village Animal Kingdom Villas. They are considered deluxe resorts, but they do not have the "normal" hotel room arrangements. There are studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, and Grand Villas. They are a "home away from home". The studio has a small fridge, refidgerator, and one queen bed and a sofa bed(except for Old Key West which has two queen beds). The 1 BR, 2 BR and Grand Villas have a full kitchen, living and dining area, and a washer and dryer. If you are a cash paying guest you will receive daily mousekeeping, however if you own or rent points from a DVC member you will get either trash and towel or full service depending on the length of your stay. If you are interested in DVC properties, do some reseach on the DVC boards as well as the rent/trade boards. Hope this helps!!

Thank you!! I was looking to maybe stay at one of the resort as a cash paying guest and your help is greatly appreciated!!

for more info than you probably want...;)

even though individuals own most of SSR and OKW, disney also owns a small percentage of those resorts (sometimes due to foreclosure on owners and sometimes they choose to buy back pts if the price is low enough.)

also, DVC owners can trade their pts outside of DVC for cruises, wdw/DLR hotels and so on...and when they do this, disney has to use their pts to reserve DVC rooms that they rent to the public to get cash to pay for the trade.

finally, if DVC owners don't book up a resort by 2 months out, DVC can take the leftover inventory and offer it to the public for cash rentals.

We booked a cash reservation at OKW last year and LOVED it! I would stay there again in a heartbeat. :woohoo:

We had 8 people in a 2BR villa and it was perfect. It was so nice to have the living room and kitchen.
