Hi guys! We invited family to come this year, and was able to book some of our stay at OKW. Right now I have a 2 BR. Lockoff near HH, but the availability became available for a Standard 2 Br. (not near HH.) Just wondering if you can suggest what your favorite building/section is. Would prefer an area with a fun pool area (if there is another one other than the Sandcastle pool). Also, do you prefer a lockoff or standard 2 br here? Thank you!

The lock-off would be a 1-bedroom and a studio with an interior connecting door (and 2 exterior doors). The studio would be the 2nd bedroom and it would have a kitchenette. All Studios at OKW have 2 queen beds which is the same as the 2nd bedroom in the dedicated.

I know the difference… I’m just asking your personal preferences at this specific resort, since I’ve never stayed here. Thanks!

If you'd prefer your guests might have their own door entrance and the ability to close the door to the main living area, then go with the lock-off. If you're a big family group and that doesn't matter, go dedicated. We always liked the dedicated 2BRs better - just seemed more like a single family suite to us.

I wish I could help you regarding a building recommendation, but we've stayed almost exclusively near HH. Sorry! But I can tell you that we love OKW - the rooms are large, the balconies are large with great views, and the place truly feels like 'home'. Hope you enjoy!

Near HH prefer the 23-26 nearest the first bus stop Penisular. Can also take quick walk to Hospitality House, last stop, if bus passes on its way to Miller’s Rd.

Non near HH, will probably get a lot of Old Turtle Pond for its pool area having a snack spot. I enjoy requesting near South Point (second bus stop) and more specifically along the waterway buildings 45 & 46.

South Point has its leisure pool there by building 55. (also on waterway but at spot boat will honk for the turn if that’s a concern..really isn’t). Also the daytime walking trail is at that end for SSR and its treehouses, plus Disney Springs.

Prefer the dedicated two bedroom. The dedicated are mostly in the center of each building. Many building configurations have the dedicated two bedroom stack up to a third floor. In those buildings (type A, like 23, 26, & 45, 46.) In those, the one bedrooms/studios go to second floor, (if height of stay is preferred). I like the one unit family feel. (Get the extra bathroom area sink and a closet but lose the little balcony. (window instead there).

Enjoy the special OKW Vibe!

I think if going as a family, a standard would be nice to have everyone using the same gathering spots for kitchen, bathroom, and entrance. But when I often travel with extended family or friends, I prefer the lockoff - it allows us to occasionally split off or keep our own schedules - they have their own entrance, can close the separator door, have a kitchenette so the early people and the late people can have their own spaces, yet with the door open we can all be together when we want. Another perk if you're traveling with people from very different climates - those that want cold AC vs those that want it warmer - the lockoff has separate AC controls.

If I wasn't doing a near-HH room I'd definitely try to score one along Peninsular Road - 27-29 are only a little farther from HH than the 23-26 loop, but are not in the near HH category - still an easy walk to HH and main pool, still on the first bus stop, but if you miss a bus, you can easily walk over to HH bus stop and catch it since that's the last stop. 62-64 are also nice and close options to HH.

Great info! Thank you for your reply!!

Does anyone in your party have mobility issues? Do you plan to make regular use of the quick service location (such as it is), or the pool bar?

We do not. Will most likely use main pool area, unless it’s overcrowded, even if not right there. Definitely will use the pool bar. Been watching videos all morning, we like the Turtle Pond Pool area as well, for a backup.

I think I'd stay in HH then. If you are not there, it can be a pretty healthy walk to get there.

HH area will have the lack of extra bathroom entry in the main area laundry room with just the primary bedroom access. Not a biggie but many like having that door..buildings 30+.

Thanks! I did notice that, but didn’t seem like a big loss. I definitely think I prefer the dedicated 2 br. at this resort.

If you enjoy adult beverages, Old Key West and Saratoga Springs quiet pools are great places to bring a small cooler full of ice and bring your own cans down from the room.

Thanks for the reply! Definitely something I have experience in, even at other pools 😜

We loved our stay in a dedicated 2BR in the spring and we were able to get a room in building 23. I think buildings 27, 28, and 24 aren't in the near HH bucket but seem close enough to not be too bad of an option if we had to stay in those. It's perhaps just an extra min or two walk from the 23 to 26 loop and near that bus stop. Not an OKW expert by any means but the parking in that area was way better than what we experienced when we parked to check in and drop off our bags.
