We planned a last minute July WDW trip that we weren't expecting d/t having points leftover and not wanting to lose them - so I booked at OKW.

We have never stayed there - any tips out there? It looks amazing.

I am going with myself and my two boys and my best friends son (who is always with us - very easy kid) but I am wondering about the buses. I don't want to rent a car and drive by myself. How are the buses? What is the order of the busstops?

The funny thing is I booked a 1Br and a studio because another family was going to come but now they can't so I have a studio - I have asked everyone and no one can come with - I can not give this room away. LOL. If it were reversed I would jump at it. I can still cancel and bank my points for this so I won't lose the points.

SO excited!

Well first off, you probably should have kept the 1 bedroom instead of the studio. That way either you could have had the bedroom to yourself, and the boys could share 2 to the pull out and 1 on the loveseat. I would want that bit of privacy if I was in that situation!;)

Studios at OKW are not my favorite, but we LOVE the 1 bedrooms or larger there.

Buses are very good at OKW, and if you are near a bus stop, you will do a lot less walking than at some of the hotel style resorts.

Order of the buses is:
Penninsular Road, South Point, Old Turtle Pond Road, Miller's Road, and Hospitaltiy House. Since all buses stop at HH last, you can easily get to the main pool to take advantage of the slide by taking any bus. There are also 3 additional quiet pools as well, and each pool area has a hot tub, laundry, BBQ grill, showers, and a play area.

No - I am keeping the 1br - I am now spoiled and need a washer/dryer - LOL. I am trying to give away the studio.
:goodvibes

OKW will spoil you for the other DVC resorts. (I guess you can tell it's my home resort. :goodvibes )

The 1BR is huge compared to the other resorts. It has a totally different feel because it is not one (or several) large hotel-like buildings with endless corridors. Instead you have the feel of a condo neighborhood, much more like "home."

We usually drive to OKW from MD, but we rely on the bus transportation most of the time, and most of the time it is great. Every now and then, like any route, a bus is running late, but that is not the norm.

Have a great trip! :yay:

I think you will enjoy OKW. The rooms are very spacious and well laid-out. There's a nice Jacuzzi in the master suite that is wonderful to use at the end of the day! :thumbsup2 As you mentioned, the washer/dryer are extremely convenient.

The bus transport is pretty good; we don't normally rent a car and we depend on it. In the middle of the day - after the morning rush - it slows down, but that's everywhere. There is also a boat that travels over to DTD for a nice change of pace.

Have a great time!

What dates are you going? I am suddenly thinking of taking a last-minute July trip and didn't think any rooms would be left at OKW so I was going to pay cash with the AP discount. I'm dying to stay at OKW after being shown the rooms there in April. Stopped there to just check it out and asked at the desk if we could see the rooms. They showed us a 2 bedroom and I was beyond impressed!!

July 26-29. I was surprised to get a room at such short notice. Good luck let me know.

Okay, I misunderstood your first post. I thought you were keeping the studio.

FYI, if you cancel the 2 bedroom and want to book a 1 bedroom, it's not a simple as just canceling the studio portion. They have to put the whole ressie on the waitlist first, and then you would have to get in line with others on the waitlist for the 1 bedroom.

I guess I would keep trying to see if you can find someone to rent the lock off studio from you. If not, then I'd just enjoy the extra space.

I just checked out of OKW, and the bus service was excellent. In 12 bus trips, the longest wait I had was 11 minutes. 5 of the trips were 2 minutes or less wait time, and the average of all 12 was about 4 1/2 minutes.
I didn't move the car all week.

Yes, that's usually our experience at OKW too. There is an occational glitch sometimes, but I can say it has rarely happened to us. We LOVE OKW bus service!

Thanks everyone for your input. Getting soooo psyched!

Diane I have two separate reses. A 1br and then a studio. I couldn't originally get a 2br. Originally I was disappointed but now that I can cancel and bank the studio points I am okay with it.

Thanks Candy! Even more psyched! The 1br looks large! Where was your room?

The rooms at OKW are huge! It's my home resort too. We just changed our January reservations to BCV, just to try somewhere else. Besides it costing more points, I'm worried that the 2 bedroom at BCV will seem small! Especially the living room/kitchen area. It looks so tiny!:)

I had the same fear last year when we stayed one week in a 2BR at OKW followed by one week at BCV in a 2BR. Although the BCV was smaller, the only thing I really "missed" in size was the balcony since it had no table where we sometimes can all eat b'fast. But, we loved the change too and trying a new resort.
