OKW vs SSR

I have been losing sleep over the decision on which resort to book for our September trip, literally . I don’t know why this trip is causing so much question, I guess since I feel kinda guilty about going in the first place.

Anyways, we are going to rent points for the first time and cannot decide between standard studio at OKW and SSR. We usually go once to twice a year and stay at Pop. For this trip we will do 1 resort day (a first for us) and 4 park days. With the shorter hours looking for the resort with the best amenities (that are open) and counter service.

It will be me, DH, DS ages 5&8. They love pool time so that is a factor in our decision. We have only stayed at Pop and AKL, so never had a resort with multiple stops. All opinions are welcome.

Are both resorts available for your dates? That could be the deciding factor.

TBH, dining options at all resorts is pretty dismal right now. At least you can walk to Disney Springs from either resort. There is currently no boat service.

Both resorts have a community hall, which could give you something to do on your down day if the pool is too crowded or it rains.

OKW studios have 2 real beds, while SSR studios in the non-preferred section have a bed and a sleeper sofa. Most SSR studios in the preferred section have a Murphy-style bed in the wall behind the sofa. A request should be made for a renovated studio if you choose to book SSR preferred.

OKW gets higher marks for their balconies and views. You might want to take that into consideration if you need to escape the room while the kids fall asleep.

Getting around each resort without a car can be cumbersome. Be prepared to walk a lot. I’ve found that SSR feels easier to walk around than OKW, but that’s just my perception.

Pools are great at either resort but I would give the edge to SSR.

SSR only if Disney Springs is high on your activity list. Otherwise, OKW, in my opinion, has a much better center HUB layout with nice main pool. For resort dining Olivia’s out classes Artist’s Palette. If the boat is not operating, you still have the scenic walk to Disney Springs option. Spacious rooms with two actual beds. Now book and get some rest lol. Have a fun trip!

I like both resorts, very similar in many ways, but given a choice, I would always choose OKW. The feel of the resort is so relaxing and beautiful. Olivia's restaurant is really good. The pool and activities are great. I don't find it hard to walk around the resort... or just hop on the buses. I also love the two dedicated beds in the studios.

SSR,, my girls prefer the pools there. Plus they have 2 main pools with slides so better options. Close to Springs for more options to transportation.

There are three themed pool areas at SSR with one leisure pool (not including the Treehouse Villas with a leisure pool). There is one themed pool at OKW with three leisure pools. OKW has Goods to Go for counter service, but all eating spaces are outside eating at a picnic table. It was originally meant to be for guests at the pool since every villa had either a kitchenette or full kitchen. There is no food court at either SSR or OKW, Artist's Palette at SSR is a nice counter service with inside dining. There is also a counter service at the Paddock pool.

2 feature pools at SSR, three separate splash pads. If pools are important SSR is one of the better Disney resorts, full stop.

Just because of the ages of your children I'd go with SSR. I'd request the Paddock section next to the bus stop, which happens to be right in front of the Paddock pool which has a slide, and The Paddock Grill where you can get a quick breakfast or lunch, and beverages. That area is also right next to the bridge which is a fairly quick walk to the Carriage House and Artist's Palette and the store. I always request the Paddock, first floor, next to the pool, and I've been lucky enough to always get that location!

Olivia’s is a table service restaurant and Artist’s Palette is a counter service restaurant. SSR’s table service is The Turf Club. It wrong to compare a counter service to a table service. OKW’s counter service is Goods to Go. I prefer SSR’s counter service over OKW’s. For me it’s a tougher call on table service restaurants. We have had great meals at both. Olivia’s seems more laid back and relaxed and The Turf Club more formal dining.

If pool time is important, SSR. If you won't have a car, SSR. OKW does have 2 queen regular beds in the studio. SSR will have the murphy bed as the second bed but likely not for standard by that time.

I’m sorry, I was talking about resort dining options. Currently comparing those two for sit down indoor dining since the Turf Club isn’t important enough to be open.
