OKW vs. SSR

My husband and I are new to the DVC. We should be able to book our first trip as members within two weeks. We are planning to go in December. I am hoping that we can stay at our home resort (AKV). If we can't get a room there we will likely be at OKW or SSR. Which would you choose, and why? (Details: we will be looking for a studio for 3 nights in early December, and we will be traveling without kids this time.)

I don't see you having an issue with DAKL in early December if you're coming far enough before the Christmas crowds. However, my family and I like OKW better. Larger rooms, and we enjoy the atmosphere more. Some arguments for SSR are the proximity to Disney springs make it appealing. There is just something about OKW that truly feels like a home away from home to them. Many people like each resort for different reasons.

Also, there is a thread for DVC resorts. You should be able to find plenty of valuable information and many different opinions there.

I disagree that in the usual year a AKV ( Not DAKL - the hotel), villa would be available to easily book at the 7 month window in early December. This is in the most popular DVC season , at a usually high demand resort. With the ongoing construction, this year may be different but do you still want to stay there?
I would choose SSR for the studio layout for a couple and the proximity to Disney Springs.

Thanks-- Yes, I meant AKV. We are hoping to travel 12/11-12/14. We have some flexibility if that would allow us to book at AKV, but I have heard reservations there are tougher to come by. Since this is our first trip as DVC members and we are traveling alone so we figured we'd like to get the lay of the land of our home resort, even if there is some inconvenience because of the construction. But, we are open to other options too.

I already tried to book AK for dec 2 to 5couldn't get it. we need a two bedroom. But we love OKW way more than SS. Inc we hit the seven month mark we will try to book there.

There is currently availability at Kidani in both standard and savannah view. Jambo has savannah available. When we can't get a room at AKV, we really like to stay at OKW. We like the vibe there.

For a 1BR, definitely Kidani. Otherwise, it depends on touring style. Jambo has the Quick Service dining, but Kidani has a better pool for children (which may not matter so much in December).

To me, the issue is savannah or standard. If savannah, then I will always go with Kidani because I request 2nd floor so we are as close as we can be to the animals. DVC at Jambo is only on 5th and 6th floors, so the viewing isn't as good. If standard, then either is fine.

When I am booking a one bedroom, or larger, the only place for us is Kidani because of the extra bathroom.
