My brother and my daughter are taking a trip in May. They are flying and will not have a car. In terms of transportation from resort to parks, which would be better, Old Key West 1 BR villa or Ft. Wilderness Cabins? If I'm posting on the wrong forum, I'll delete it. Thanks for any opinions.

Having never stayed in the FW cabin I cannot comment, but I can say the OKW 1-bedrooms are huge and since this is an Uncle/Niece trip, the separate bedroom at OKW would probably be appreciated. I have stayed at OKW many times and have never had transportation issues getting to the parks, but if they can book "hospitality" then I would advise it, but probably not at this late date. FW may have easier access to MK but OKW has the boat to Disney Springs. I just love the laid back feel of OKW...it works for me.

^^Yup!

They both have a internal bus system to transport you to main station to parks. I found the OKW to be quicker and have less stops. Remember the boat at FW can take you to MK as well. Personally I found the busses to Epcot and HS to be a very short ride.

From a room standpoint the cabins don't have a washer and dryer nor do they have a full kitchen. They only have a convection microwave and 2 griddle stove.

OKW has a full kitchen and full size w/d in the 1 bedroom villas

This may not be a sticking point for you however it was very nice to be able to wash clothes in our villa

We stayed 2 weeks ago in OKW 1 bed villa and were torn when we made the reservations. We really liked the campgrounds and always wanted to stay in a cabin however we realized that we had DVC points that needed to be used so we stayed at OKW instead. We went to FW one night to visit friends and although the cabin was quaint and comfy we were glad we stayed at OKW, especially after we rode the internal bus system there.

I would think OKW. Have never stayed at either, but from what I've read, Ft. Wilderness bus system doesn't work very well for everyone.

When did they remove the full kitchens with dishwasher from the FW cabins?

ETA ok just checked some updated pics of the cabins and they took out the stove and I think dishwasher.

But I think a cabin is better for a larger group where if you need some space you can go outside to the great outdoors.

I believe the refurb removed just the stove/range. In its place they put in a 3 burner cook top and a nice Microwave/convection oven. The dishwasher was not removed.
Dave from "My First Visit.com" has a great review, including baking in the Convection oven. It worked perfectly for him.
The refurb also replaced the double bed in the bedroom with a Queen bed, and removed the Murphy bed in the Living Room and added a nice Queen sleeper sofa.

We just got back from the Cabins a few weeks ago. The dishwashers are still there and the full stoves were replaced with dual microwave/convection ovens. Seemed simple enough to use and shouldn't be too much of a hindrance for cooking just about anything you wanted.

We had a rental car so transportation wasn't an issue for us. We did take the boat to MK and that was fun. Drove to Epcot since it seemed like that was easier.

We loved the Cabins, especially exploring the resort with our Golf Cart rental. We'd drive around at night after the Chip and Dale sing-a-long checking out all the cool ways many of the Campers had their sites lit up and decorated.

You beat me to this by seconds LOL

Yea I've not been on these boards as much as I have in the past since we have no trips planed at all for the future. :( Also everything literally changed on our last trip as the old FP system was starting to be removed from AK the day after we went there so to me its like everything has changed..
