Hi All,

I'm looking to surprise my Mom with a trip to disney world. We are going specifically for Food & Wine 2017!
I've stayed in CBR (once), CSR (twice), POR (twice), & POFQ (twice). I like them all equally but have noticed that OKW when rented on DVC points is in my budget.

If we chose OKW we can go at any time but if we choose one of the moderates we can only go when free dining is available. So which would you choose?

Since you are going to F&W, the free dining isn't as useful since you may end up filling up at the kiosks. And, with the small kitchen in the OKW studio, you can enjoy breakfast in your room.

I'd choose OKW. As MHDTS pointed out, free dining isn't as nice of a perk since you will likely be enjoying a lot of the food and wine kiosks. The balcony is a big perk for my family as we enjoy sitting out on it with something to drink at the end of the day. Plus, it will be nice to get to pick your own dates.

Another vote for OKW, with the same thinking about F&W. Free dining doesn't always come out less money since you are paying rack rate for the room. Another thing to think about, if you are going during F&W it's possible some discounts will come out so you can get a room only discount and stay in a deluxe for what you would have paid for a moderate with "free dining". Keep in mind if you rent points, there rarely is a chance to change your mind so be sure that is what you want to do. It's not always less to rent points for studios then it is when there is a discount available. I think it pays better if you are renting for 1 or 2 bedrooms.

I think a mod with free dining is the best option, because you can trade in your meal credits for snack credits, and use them all at F&W. Have you considered Boardwalk with rented points in a studio? You'll be in Epcot a lot and it's right next door.

Without a doubt, I would choose OKW based on schedule flexibility. You will like the décor, larger rooms and having access to a kitchen.

An OKW Studio has a kitchenette. It is not a full kitchen. An important note if trying to plan its use.

Another vote for OKW two double beds.. kitchenette and a boat to Disney Springs for the the shopping and dining in the eveving. Plus it has a nice pool. If poss try and get hospitality house.

Personally, I would go with the mod with free dining. I have stayed at OKW many times, and my personal preference is a resort that isn't so spread out. Plus, as previously stated, you can use your snack credits at F&W and even trade in meals for snacks if you need more. Of course, your priorities might be different.

Actually correction I think your queens are our kings looking it up oh so complex anyway it has two queens lol!

Free dining is always awesome and with the option of 3 snacks/QS credit, that would really help with the often punishing expense of eating your way around World Showcase.

All of this ASSUMES that the available windows fit your availability.

We have stayed in a studio at Old Key West, and we do love the resort, but would not stay there again in a studio. It could possibly have been our location but our room was soooo noisy, every bus that went by or turned around woke us up. We were on Turtle Pond road. We stayed in a two bedroom at OKW and didn't have this problem, but also you have more doors separating where you sleep, to the outside world. Don't know if this is a problem with all studios there or just our location. We also have stayed at POR, it is a mod, and love it there. We would choose the mod. But if you want to eat in the room, the studio would be better. Both are big resorts and we always had to walk a pretty good distance to the bus stop at OKW, and not too far to the bus stop at POR. But you can look at the OKW and make a room request. Either way, you will be at Disney!!! And every resort has pros and cons!!

I would choose OKW for the flexibility in choosing your dates. And they have better bus service than the mods. The OKW buses don't get packed with people the way the buses at the mods do. And you don't have to wait an eternity for an empty bus to arrive at park close like you do with the mods.

Disney has been limiting the dates of free dining to make it almost impossible to book a mod during the free dining period that would include Food & Wine. Plus, September weather is usually very humid and rainy. October, especially the second half, has much better weather.

I'd do OKW, if only because you've already tried all of the Mods already, so why not try something new? However, once you've rented points, you generally cannot change your dates, so keep that in mind as you make your decision.

my personal preference is a resort that isn't so spread out
Excepting POFQ, I'm not sure any of the Mods are less spread out than OKW. (And POFQ availability is usually little-to-none for FD.)

with the option of 3 snacks/QS credit, that would really help with the often punishing expense of eating your way around World Showcase
Do you have to use all three credits in one transaction? I vaguely recall that you do, which makes it a little less useful for F&W, because you would have to use all three snacks at a single kiosk.

I think this might have been your location. We just stayed in a studio near the South Point station and it was really quiet. We hardly heard a thing the entire time that we were there.
