OKW Resale Purchased

Was Wondering

Having lurked and read here for six months, I finally took the plunge and bought an OKW resale, 400 points, $60 per point, with points banked from the previous year...so I got 685 points.

I went resale route because....

1. I wanted to stay at OKW. I have visited the grounds last summer when I was staying at the WL. WL is nice, but I wasn't looking to stay in that environment time and time again.

2. I want to be able to use the 11 month window to secure a grand villa each year for a 12 day periods. I am self employed, so I can make those types of plans that far in advance. I can bring siblings and cousins with me and love the idea of all the extra room.

3. Didn't want to pay the higher point price for WLV at $72/point. Needed 11 month window, didn't want to stay at WLV all the time, small accomodations, no grand villas. Saving basically $12 a point on 400 points is a good chunck of change too.

4. Reviewing the points per stay per season listings gave me the appreciation for the greater value of OKW also.

Thanks to all.....

Thanks to rich too....

You are very welcome and WELCOME HOME!!!!

THat is how I use OKW. I really can't imagine a better way for us to vacation. We have an only child, our family is spread out over the country, this has made it very nice to see people. Now many other family members bought, so we have a regular old Hyams jamboree every year.

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", Karl Marx, pretty sick, huh?

Welcome Home!! And you made a very wise decision to go the resale route IMHO!! Great price too! OKW is a beautiful resort and the Grand Villas are awesome. To me one of *the* biggest drawbacks to buying WVL,VB,HH is the fact that you'll be unable to secure Grand Villa ressies. Since you are self employed and have some flexibility I'm quite sure that you'll be able to score ressies at BWV and WL as well.

Vb, and HH both have grand villa. Do you mean that these members won't be able to get GV at OKW and BW? The CM at OKW says that unless it is a holiday or value season that the GV can and do go vacant. (that why the new resort won't have them -to big to go vacant)

Don't get me wrong I LOVE OKW my favorite, but all the DVC resorts are very special.

You are right Spiceycat,
The grand villas do go empty alot. Members dont tend to reserve them as much as other units. For me I wouldnt worry about a GV unless it was something you were going to reserve for a holiday or a specific time of year every year. Welcome Home!

Grand Villas as far as I Know are the first to go and must be reserved one day at a time at the 11 month window (for OKW), I thought the Beach cottages at Vero were popular also.

Was Wondering- Congrats and Welcome home. with that amount of banked points I think you got a Super Deal!!!

Your reasons for buying OKW are exactly why we like owning there. I often think we should try one of the other DVC resorts, but I always end up "coming home" to OKW! :)
