OKW Questions

We just booked OKW for July and I'm now in the research stage. We like to spend our afternoons at the pool/pool bar. So do most of you drive to the main pool area or is walking an option? And is parking a problem there?

I read in my Passporter that the buses stop at the Hospitality House on their way out of the resort. Do they also stop there on the way in? So is taking the bus a better choice than driving?

TIA

I know I'll have more questions, but this is a start.

We have always walked to the main pool. Almost every bus makes their last stop at HH - just check w/driver to be sure. Buses do not stop at HH upon entry, but the first stop is a very short walk back.

Don't forget the quiet pools in the immediate area; they are also very nice.

It really depends on where you're room is. You may be just as happy spending time at the quiet pool near your room! :)

We also walk to the main pool area, we just don't do it in the middle of the afternoon in July or August!

Thanks for the info. If it was just DH and me, the quiet pools would be fine. But the DD's, especially DD11, love a pool with a slide. She loves the clown slide at the BW pool. :)

We almost always walk. But a word of WARNING that another poster already touched on. Generally the last stop is the hospitality house. But I have been on return buses where the driver will query people as to where they are getting off. If a bunch of people respond "hospitality house", then the driver made that the first stop. Don't get on a bus without verifying the driver still is planning a stop at the HH...or you may watch the HH go by and next stop...who knows where.

PS...parking availability near the HH is heavily dependent on the time of day. If it is near a peak check-in time, that lot can be extremely crowded. I enjoy the walk and don't think even the furthest unit is really all that far to walk.

Building 14 and 15 are close to HH.

We have always walked to the main pool regardless of where we're staying. We find it a nice leisurely walk. I think parking near the HH would be more of a pain unless you get a spot early in the morning. I don't see how walking around OKW is any different than those who stay at the BCV/BWV and walk all around there----on the boardwalk and to the parks. If you choose not to walk, I think I'd have to suggest the bus to the HH. Alot of people say OKW guests tend to use their car more. I can tell you we don't. We park it in front of our door and only use it for visiting other resorts for dining or shopping and to the water parks. Otherwise, we use the busses.
We stayed in bldg 45 this past summer and I don't think the walk was more than 4-5 min tops to the main pool. Have a great stay this July :cool1:

We do very much like Maria. We usually walk unless the weather is bad or we have a lot to carry. Then we either ride a bus or drive. For swiming, I wouldn't bother with the car, because that truley would be a BOTHER! ANY bus that is leaving the resort will stop at HH on it's way out. Sure it might also stop there on it's way in, but that is usually at the end of the day, and only if the bus is not continuing on to any parks. Even so, it usually stops both on the way in AND on the way out. You don't have to get on a bus marked "internal" because ALL park buses go the same route.

Thanks so much. This was my major concern and you have made me feel better. :thumbsup2 I think OKW looks lovely, but I kept looking at the resort map. It looked very spread out. I don't mind the walk, but my Mom might be coming with us. So I was trying to figure out what my best alternative was.

You can also catch a bus back to your area by catching any bus at the Peninsular Road bus stop (which the the first one all buses stop at). It's not very far from the main pool - just across the canal bridge.

If you stay in the Turtle Pond area, the pool there is nice and also has a refreshments area.
