Is there anyway to guarantee a building at OKW with an elevator? My mother is 82 years old and has trouble with stairs. With a doctor's note, I wasn't sure if there was a way to guarantee that we would be in one of the newer buildings with an elevator.

No but you can guarantee a HCA villa. They will reserve those thru Special Services. If you don't want a HCA villa then any other request is just a request and won't be guaranteed.

I would suggest requesting a ground floor villa if stairs are the issue. It can't hurt to also request Buildings 62-64 (the elevator buildings), but if the real issue is just stairs ask for ground floor villa as your first request since every building has those.

Good luck!

When you make your reservation, tell the MS Adviser that you need a elevator for medical reasons. If they can't guarantee it, ask about the group that handles requests for the handicapped. :goodvibes

When DH was using a scooter after having his 3rd knee surgery in 2 months we requested a building with an elevator or ground floor due to medical reason. We received a room on the ground floor IN a building with elevators! :rotfl::thumbsup2

Are any of the Grand Villas at OKW on the ground floor?

Yes, there is one in Building 48 on the ground floor (HCA) and two in Building 63 which have elevator access (one is HCA).

In the HCA GVs only the master BR is HCA. None of the 2nd floors are accessible and none have elevator access to the 2nd floor BRs. All GVs at SSR do have elevator access to both floors.

Thanks Doc! I'm planning a trip for next October which will include my 82 year old mother as I mentioned and my 2 nieces who are both autistic. So I'm thinking of reserving a Grand Villa for the first time so that everyone has space. So I wanted to make sure they had GVs that were on the ground floor for my mom!

We didn't have an operation or scooter, but the last time I requested "first floor or an elevator building, that's what I got too!" We loved that OKW 1 bedroom. I have difficulty with stairs.

On a related matter, I just received my reservation confirmation letter for an OKW trip in May, 2010. I requested a specific building but it is not mentioned in the letter. This is my first ressie as a DVC member and MS told me when I made it that I could reserve that specific building. Any suggestions?

Specific buildings are requests only and not guaranteed. Be happy if you get it and prepared for the fact you may not. The only guaranteed booking category at OKW is for the HH area. Even then there are multiple buildings and you could end up in any of those for that stay.

Even though he's not guaranteed to get his requests, shouldn't his confirmation letter reflect the request that he made? I could have sworn that in the past my confirmation letters have indicated the requests that I made.

Bill, you should call MS and make sure they have your requests in the system even though you're not guaranteed to get them. You still want to make sure they know about them.

I've never had a request reflected on my confirmations. Only guaranteed items of the unit size and booking category. Even when booking an HA unit I haven't had that reflected and that is supposed to be guaranteed when going thru special needs. The poster can certainly call to double check that the request is there but if the CM noted it in the conversation it should be and there isn't much more to do about it.

The Disney Corporation has had to take action to correct past noncompliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. They are extremely sensitive to the needs of the disabled and, of course, avoiding negative publicity and paying unnecessary fines. Just make your needs known and all should be addressed in a reasonable manner. http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plain-text/
