Does anyone know what the bed situation is in a one bedroom villa at Old Key West?

I know the studio has two Queens

What does the 1 bedroom have? (I am thinking K in master and sleep sofa in living room)

Thanks
Lisa

You are correct, and the bedroom is huge as is the bathroom. I'll post some photos in a minute for you.

Thanks,
The pictures are awesome.
Any info you could give us comparing OKW to a studio at WLV (that is what is available for our time frame) would be greatly appreciated.

We can stay in a studio or 1 bedroom at OKW and only a studio at WL

We have stayed at WL several times before and are very framiliar with the resort just not the DVC part.

We know nothing about OKW

Thanks again for the great pictures!!
Lisa

The 1 bedroom OKW pics are great from 2angels.

The OKW studio has 2 queen beds, while the VWL has one queen bed and 1 double sleeper sofa. I've stayed in both. here are the pics (ohhh.....the OKW studio bathroom is larger than the VWL).

Any other questions, feel free to ask......

How is the transportation at OKW?

MiaSRN62,
Which resort do you like best?

We love the WL (stayed 4 times) but like the idea of two Q at Old Key West.

How is the sleep sofa at WL? i am worried it will not be comfortable.

We also think it might be fun to try someplace new. Although our friends are staying at WL so that would be better in that way.

No contest. A one bedroom at OKW has it all over any other DVC. The studio is nice too!

The transport is very reliable and you'll not end up jammed on a bus that is shared between other deluxe resorts like you would if you went with BWI.

The entire resort is laid back and very peaceful. It's a very welcome change from the chaos of the parks.

But then, I'm just a teeny bit biased as you might be able to guess! :teeth:

Hi Lisa,
It is hard for me to choose between these two resorts as they are both my favorite in WDW. I like them for different reasons, as well as similar. Both are quiet and serene places to stay. In both of these places, I just feel removed from the hustle and bustle....gives us time to decompress.
The busses at OKW run fine. I'd say averaging every 10-20 min. Some remark that they seem slow, but I think this is a perception. It does take the bus approximately 7-8 min to wind through the neighborhoods (Hospitality House, Penninsular Rd, Millers Rd, Turtle Pond, Southpoint).
HH stop is the last one before the bus heads out to the parks. So if you're staying near Miller's Road, or Penninsular Rd and just miss the bus, you can walk over to HH and still catch it. So if you've ever stayed at CBR, POR etc.....the busses are like there. They have several different neighborhood stops. But OKW does not share a bus with any other resort.

WL/VWL has one main bus stop. WL, as you probably know also has the boat to the MK. But, at the end of the day, if you stay until park closing, you need to take a bus back from the MK to WL. Once the MK is closed, you need to take the monorail to the TTC and then catch the "Boon" bus back to the WL. You'll share this bus with Ft Wildereness guests as well. Though I usually notice the WL is the first to get dropped off. But going back to your room after the MK closes is a bit of a pain. So those who say the OKW busses seem like they take longer---I just don't see it. I think it really does come down to one's perception. OKW and WL run on very similar bus schedules as far as wait times go. These are the two resorts we stay at most often (well....we've stayed at POP alot too).
And the WL/VWL does share a bus with Ft Wilderness. Depending on the time of day and which park you are going to, the busses also share with the GF or Poly.

As far as the comfort of the sofa bed at VWL ? For an adult, I would not think it would be the best for anything over a 2 night stay. My teens were "ok" with it, but preferred a "real" bed as they said.

*** and I agree with the previous poster. A 1 bedroom at OKW wins out over any studio. The room you get is just amazing. The balcony is huge (you could have a party out on it). A jacuzzi/washer and dryer/full kitchen.
Hope this helps.

If you have a car, you park outside of your room at OKW. This is very convenient for driving between resorts for meals or going to a waterpark.

OKW has a boat to SSR and DTD.

The photos in the post by MiaSRN62, the last OKW photo shows a louvered door. That is actually the closet in a second bedroom of a two bedroom at OKW. The difference is that would be the entrance to the studio instead of a closet. The only closet is opposite the microwave/kitchen sink area in the studio.

The third OKW photo shows an open door. That is the lockoff door into the one bedroom that this studio is attached to that makes up a two bedroom villa. If you are in a studio, that door would be closed and latched shut.

Does anyone know if they have a cot type bed that could be brought into OKW 1 bedroom since we have 2 kids that fight if they sleep together and I (nor my dh) want to sleep on the sofa sleeper with a kid? If they don't then it will work out fine...I have a feeling that after a day in the heat (august) they will pass out on the bus ride home! Also, do we have to pull out the sofa sleeper and are there sheets already on it for when we get back at night? We got upgraded so we will get daily mousekeeping.... Thank you!

Thanks for all of the responses. I am giving all of this info to my husband so he can give me his input.

Any info on food choices?

We do like the food court type area (Roaring Forks) for quick service. How does OKW compare in this area??

Thanks
again,
Lisa

you definitely have the room. now I don't know since you upgraded. I just know that DVC members don't get a cot.

the sheets are on the sleeper sofa - the blankets and pillows are in the master closet.

No cots at OKW, we needed one but were unable to get one. We could have rented a queen blow up bed for $25 a night. But no cots. There was a pack and play in the closet though.

$25 a night! I wonder how much it would cost for us to mail a double air mattress down and back....or if I get a really cheap one just leave it for the next family  .....hmmmm I will have to do some thinking on that. For those who have slept on the sofa sleeper is it at all comfortable? We will be there for 6 nights and the kids would sleep on it (7 & 4). I have a feeling everything will be just perfect once we get there and we will all be so hot and tired we will sleep anywhere! Thanks for all the info and sharing your "home" with us...we will leave it like we found it!

The sleeper sofa in the living room is a queen sized sleeper sofa. There is also a love seat in the OKW living room that you could make up a bed on for your smaller one. DVC resorts don't provide any extra sleeping spaces like rollaways or cots. You get the number of beds that the villa has.

You could just ask the kids "Who wants to stay home on this trip so you won't have to sleep in the same bed and fight? Or you could sleep in the same bed and we could all go to WDW."

:rotfl2: That is great...unfortunetly they don't fight...they laugh and goof off and poke each other and laugh some more. I really think they will be soooo tired after long hot days playing that they will crash (hopefully not off the side of the sofa!). Or the little one can sleep with us until she falls asleep and then move her :cutie: . I just thought if they offered them I would put in a request before we got there. Thank you for all the help with OKW....we are excited to be able to have a chance to stay!

No...no food court at OKW. There is an outside snack stand called Goods to Go. This is also where you'd get your refillable mugs filled. No indoor seating. They have about 6 large picnic benches on the boardwalk. Here is the menu :

and you can get room service pizza from here :
http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/men_sasp.htm

We also use this outside restaurant for deliveries (they have a great selection and deliver right to your door as late as midnight) :

Use the Lake Buena Vista location : http://www.giordanos.com/locations.php

Maria,

I never thought to order from some place other than Disney. Does the resort let outside companies come in?

Thanks for your info. THis might be a good alternative. Sometimes we like to hang out by the pool and just eat pizza or burgers etc for dinner (or even lunch) Thanks again

Lisa

sometimes you may have to go to the front desk to collect your order.

I think they stopped (due to complaints) making you go to the security shack to collect them.

the outside grocery orders can be deliver directly to your rooms. So I don't always understand the different.
